Job Overview:
The Family Support Specialist role is a full-time maximum term position available until December 2027, situated within the Secondary Family Support Program. This position involves working closely with families who have children aged 0-18 years, providing essential case management services aimed at achieving positive and sustainable long-term changes for children and young people. The role requires a strong commitment to child rights and a focus on early interventions, utilizing a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and child-centered approach to develop case management goals. The specialist will address barriers families face in areas such as housing, education, and child development, while fostering positive relationships with family members in accordance with the organization's practice frameworks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Family Support Specialist will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to families, children, and young people through the Case Management Framework. Key duties include:
  • Assessing and addressing barriers faced by families in housing, parenting capacity, community supports, education, and child development.
  • Developing rapport and positive working relationships with family members, adhering to the Cultural Framework and Child Protection Practice Framework.
  • Utilizing a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and child-centered approach to establish case management goals.
  • Making appropriate referrals to other services as needed.
  • Collaborating with team members to ensure a cohesive approach to family support.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation of case management activities.
  • Participating in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in child rights and protection.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or another relevant Human Services Degree. Additionally, experience working with families, children, and young people is essential, with a preference for those who have experience in case management. A current Working with Children's Check and a valid Driver's License are also required to ensure compliance with child safety regulations and facilitate travel for home visits and community engagement.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field within Human Services. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of child development, family dynamics, and the legal and ethical frameworks surrounding child protection and rights.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant experience working with families, children, and young people, particularly in case management roles.
