The International Energy Agency (IEA), operating under the OECD framework, is dedicated to advancing energy supply security, Economic Growth, and Environmental Sustainability through Energy Policy cooperation. The IEA's Directorate of Sustainability, Technology and Outlooks leads energy modeling and sustainability efforts, producing major analytical reports, including the World Energy Outlook. The Tracking Sustainable Transitions Unit within the Directorate focuses on energy transitions and broader economic, social, and environmental dynamics, employing around 20 professionals.
Job Overview:
The Young Associate position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the Design of energy roadmaps, financing plans, and analytical outputs related to energy access and transitions in developing countries. The role involves supporting various analytical tasks within the Tracking Sustainable Transition Unit, allowing the associate to broaden their knowledge across a range of energy topics. The Young Associate will report directly to the Head of the Unit and will engage in research, analysis, and drafting of reports that inform energy strategies and policies. This position is ideal for candidates who are passionate about energy sustainability and are looking to make a meaningful impact in the field of energy transitions, particularly in Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Young Associate will be responsible for conducting research and data gathering on energy access and transitions, particularly in Africa. This includes preparing draft sections for flagship IEA analytical outputs, such as the World Energy Outlook. The associate will develop country-specific energy models, design long-term energy scenarios, draft reports, and interact with government officials to produce policy-relevant outputs. Additionally, the role involves preparing model inputs and analyzing model outputs, assisting with Data Management and programming. The Young Associate will also draft talking points, speeches, and briefing materials for high-level meetings, coordinate relationships with stakeholders from government, industry, and academia, and provide analytical and logistical support for Ministerial-level meetings focused on energy transitions in emerging markets and developing economies.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong academic background in engineering, economics, technology, sustainability, or a related discipline, with an expected graduation date between January 1, 2024, and September 1, 202
- Candidates who already hold or are enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or equivalent degree will not be considered. Coursework in energy-related aspects of economics, climate and environment, policy, sustainable development, Data Science, or investment is required. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in energy and sustainability, particularly in emerging markets and developing economies, along with quantitative skills and experience in programming, research, and analytical abilities.
Educational Background:
Candidates must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as engineering, economics, technology, or sustainability. The degree should be obtained between January 1, 2024, and September 1, 202

Experience:

Languages:

This position is a two-year fixed-term appointment, starting in September 202

The monthly base salary for this role is 3,780.34 EUR, exempt from French income tax, with additional allowances based on eligibility.
