Job Overview:
The Young Associate will work under the supervision of the Head of Data and Indicators of Energy Transitions section within the Energy Data Centre. This role involves contributing to the IEA's framework aimed at enhancing the capacity of developing countries to monitor energy transitions, particularly in relation to climate policy data. The Young Associate will engage in Desk Research, collaborate with government counterparts, and facilitate workshops at national or regional levels, partnering with organizations like the United Nations and regional entities such as APEC and OLADE. The position requires a proactive approach to developing country-level assessments and recommendations, ensuring that the data collected informs effective climate policies and energy strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Young Associate's responsibilities include conducting background research on innovative methods for collecting energy data and analyzing national data landscapes, including key institutions and climate policy targets in selected developing countries. The role also involves consolidating and strengthening a network of stakeholders at both national and international levels, coordinating consultation activities, and identifying opportunities for joint proposals to enhance national capacities. The Young Associate will contribute to the implementation of the IEA framework for developing national energy statistics, support ongoing capacity-building activities, and provide guidance to developing countries on energy data. Additionally, the role includes organizing bilateral and international events to consult stakeholders and promote the framework, managing consultants when necessary, and supporting various data activities within the EDC, such as energy balances and national emissions data.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree in statistics, engineering, economics, sociology, law, public policy, Environmental Management, international relations, or a related field, with graduation dates between January 1, 2024, and September 1, 202

Coursework in at least two of the following areas is required: economics, statistics, environmental management, international relations, public policy, or development. Additionally, coursework in statistics or applied mathematics is desirable.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an undergraduate degree in relevant fields such as statistics, engineering, economics, sociology, law, public policy, environmental management, or international relations. Candidates should have completed coursework in economics, statistics, and environmental management, with a strong preference for those who have also studied applied mathematics. The graduation date must fall between January 1, 2024, and September 1, 2025, ensuring that candidates are recent graduates or soon-to-be graduates.
Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a foundational understanding of energy data concepts and the ability to manage databases. While specific prior work experience is not mandated, candidates should demonstrate strong strategic thinking abilities and effective communication skills.
