Job Overview:
The Young Associate will be an integral part of the Advisors’ team within the Environment Directorate (ENV) at the OECD. This role involves supporting the Director and Deputy Directors in their functions, contributing to the effective communication of ENV's work in engagements with the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General. The Young Associate will assist in preparing background notes, speeches, and talking points on critical environmental issues such as Climate Change, Biodiversity, pollution, and sustainable finance. The position also entails supporting outreach and communication activities, conducting research and analysis for OECD-wide initiatives, and coordinating meetings and events. The Young Associate will be expected to stay informed about international environmental issues and contribute to various ad hoc projects as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the preparation of background notes, speeches, and talking points for the Office of the Secretary-General, and the Director and Deputy Directors of the Environment Directorate, focusing on topics like climate change, biodiversity, water, pollution, sustainable finance, and the circular economy.
  • Support outreach and communication activities by preparing materials to promote major outputs and messages at key internal and external events.
  • Contribute to ensuring that ENV messages and perspectives are integrated into broader OECD work and communicated effectively.
  • Conduct research and analysis for OECD-wide horizontal activities, including topics related to ocean, gender, and infrastructure.
  • Assist in organizing official and informal meetings and events, and prepare meeting notes.
  • Coordinate with teams within and outside the Directorate.
  • Stay updated on international environmental issues and contribute to ad hoc projects and tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate degree in Environmental Policy, science and management, economics, political science, public policy, or a related discipline, with a graduation date between 1 January 2024 and 1 September 202
  • Applications from candidates who already hold or are enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or equivalent degree will not be considered.
  • Course work in at least two of the following areas: Natural Resources Governance/Management, Environmental Economics, Climate Change Policy and Management, Climate Geopolitics, Biodiversity Management.
  • A solid understanding of major environmental challenges.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical abilities.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as environmental policy, science and management, economics, political science, or public policy. The degree must be obtained between 1 January 2024 and 1 September 202
  • Coursework in specific areas related to environmental governance and management is required, ensuring that candidates have a foundational understanding of the critical issues facing the environment today.

Experience:
The position is designed for recent graduates or those nearing graduation, specifically targeting individuals who will complete their undergraduate studies between January 2024 and September 202
  • Therefore, prior professional experience is not mandatory, but a solid understanding of environmental issues and relevant coursework is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) is mandatory. Candidates should also have a willingness to learn the other language, which is beneficial for effective communication within the organization and with member countries.

  • The monthly base salary for this role is 3,780.34 EUR, which is exempt from French income tax, along with additional allowances based on eligibility.
