Job Overview:
The Young Associate position within the Development Research Unit of the OECD's Development Co-operation Directorate (DCD) is designed to support the redesign and transformation of the flagship report and donor profiles for 2025, as well as the delivery of a new thematic report in 2026. The role involves conducting research, analysis, and drafting content for the 2026 New Outlook report and the 2026 Aid for Trade report. The selected candidate will work closely with the Head of Unit and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of these projects, contributing to the OECD's mission of enhancing international development cooperation and addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Young Associate will be responsible for a range of tasks including: 1. Supporting the creative process for redesigning and producing the new Flagship report by conducting market research and consulting with users, key partners, and professional editors. 2. Conducting research and analysis, synthesizing findings, and drafting content for the 2026 New Outlook report and the 2026 Aid for Trade report. 3. Performing background research and analysis on relevant issues to inform the annotated agenda of bi-annual meetings of the Network of Chief Economists of International Development Agencies and Finance Institutes. 4. Developing and maintaining collaboration across DCD and the OECD to identify opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships. 5. Liaising with partner organizations engaged in the Flagship Report and the Chief Economist Network. 6. Supporting the preparation and delivery of strategic communications for the 2026 Flagship report, including organizing events and creating communication materials. 7. Identifying opportunities for disseminating the flagship reports to new communities, particularly academic researchers in low- or middle-income countries.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess demonstrable knowledge and motivation to work on Global Development issues, social and environmental justice, and an understanding of Economic Development challenges in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Asia. They should have experience in Data Analysis, literature reviews, and drafting skills, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills to present ideas and research findings effectively in diverse settings.
Educational Background:
Candidates must hold an undergraduate degree in international development, public diplomacy, economics, political science, international relations, or a related discipline, with a graduation date between 1 January 2024 and 1 September 2025. Applications from those who already hold or are enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or equivalent degree will not be considered. Coursework in research Design, methodologies, data and statistics, and dissertations addressing international development and political economy issues is required.
Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a foundational level of experience in research and analysis related to international development, with a focus on data interpretation and literature review. While specific years of experience are not mandated, candidates should demonstrate relevant skills and knowledge through their academic and any practical experiences.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the OECD's member countries, is considered an asset. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.
Additional Notes:
This is a two-year fixed-term appointment starting in September 2025. The closing date for applications is midnight 1 December 2024 (CET). The monthly base salary for this position is 3,780.34 EUR, exempt from French income tax, with additional allowances based on eligibility.
