Job Overview:
The WASH Project Manager is tasked with overseeing the implementation, management, and supervision of WASH projects in the Ituri Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This role is critical in ensuring that the WASH activities are effectively integrated with emergency health projects aimed at supporting displaced and vulnerable populations affected by conflict. The manager will be responsible for coordinating project activities, ensuring compliance with project proposals, and adapting to the dynamic needs of the communities served. The position requires regular travel to field locations and villages, necessitating a flexible approach to work in a challenging environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Technical Management: Oversee the implementation and management of WASH projects, ensuring adherence to activity plans and timelines. 2. Staff Management: Lead the assigned team, including recruitment, daily management, training, and performance appraisals. 3. Financial Management: Monitor project budgets, prepare cash forecasts, and ensure timely and accurate completion of financial paperwork. 4. Logistic Management: Ensure timely procurement of WASH supplies and equipment, maintaining minimum stock levels and proper distribution. 5. Quality Management: Utilize Medair's e-Library and operating procedures to ensure compliance with standardized formats and guidelines. 6. Reporting: Prepare regular reports on project progress and challenges, ensuring transparency and accountability. 7. Community Engagement: Foster relationships with local communities and stakeholders to ensure project relevance and effectiveness.
Required Qualifications:
1. A university degree in Water/Environmental Engineering, Management, Civil Engineering, or Hydrology. 2. At least 2 years of post-qualification experience in water and sanitation projects. 3. Proven management experience in a WASH context, particularly in humanitarian settings. 4. Strong understanding of WASH programming in developing countries. 5. Excellent English and French communication skills, both spoken and written.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field such as Water/Environmental Engineering, Management, Civil Engineering, or Hydrology. This educational background is essential for understanding the technical aspects of WASH projects and ensuring effective implementation.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience in the water and sanitation sector. Candidates should have management experience in a WASH context, ideally within a humanitarian framework. Experience working in developing countries is highly desirable, as it provides insight into the challenges and dynamics of implementing WASH programs in such environments.
Languages:
Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this position, as effective communication with team members, stakeholders, and local communities is crucial. Additional languages relevant to the local context may be considered an asset but are not required.
