Job Overview:
The WaSH Coordinator position at NRC in Mubi, Adamawa State, is designed for individuals who are passionate about helping refugees and those forced to flee. The role involves overseeing the WASH program in Mubi, ensuring adherence to NRC policies and procedures, and contributing to the implementation of the Nigeria Country Strategy (2022-25), particularly the WASH Strategy. The coordinator will manage WASH project personnel, coordinate activities and budgets, provide progress reports, supervise contractor works, and train team members and local partners. The position requires collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders, ensuring Capacity Building of WASH staff, and promoting the rights of IDPs, returnees, and refugees in line with NRC’s Advocacy Strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The WaSH Coordinator will have a range of responsibilities including: managing WASH project personnel such as WASH Officers and Assistants; ensuring adherence to NRC policies; implementing the WASH strategy; coordinating and managing the WASH program in Mubi; providing progress and completion reports; supervising contractor works; training team members and local partners; developing necessary tools for the WASH program; participating in monitoring plans; ensuring proper archiving of project documents; collaborating with local authorities; ensuring capacity building of WASH staff; contributing to needs assessments and surveys; preparing BoQ’s and construction designs; supervising community projects and Hygiene Promotion activities; scaling up WASH operational capacity; supporting market-based approaches in WASH; mainstreaming protection in WASH projects; and undertaking performance management reviews with staff.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a technical background in WASH with a university degree in a relevant discipline. A minimum of 3 years of WASH experience in a humanitarian or Early Recovery context is essential. Experience working in complex and volatile contexts is required, and previous experience in Mubi or Adamawa State is an added advantage. Candidates should have technical WASH expertise, particularly in rural settings, and experience with the construction of water surface systems. Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are mandatory, along with fluency in a local language.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant discipline related to WASH. This educational foundation is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary technical knowledge and skills to effectively manage and implement WASH programs in a humanitarian context.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in WASH, particularly in humanitarian or early recovery settings. Familiarity with the local context, especially in Mubi or Adamawa State, is considered an advantage, as it can enhance the effectiveness of program implementation.
Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, both written and verbal. Additionally, fluency in a local language is required to facilitate communication with community members and local partners, which is essential for the successful implementation of WASH programs.
Additional Notes:
This position is based in Mubi, Adamawa State, with a contract duration of 12 months, which is renewable based on performance and funding. The role is classified as Grade 7 in NRC's grading structure. The reporting line is to the Field Office Coordinator with a dotted line to the WaSH Project Manager.
