Job Overview:
The WASH Coordinator will be responsible for driving the development and implementation of Solidarités International's WASH strategy. This role involves ensuring the quality, relevance, and alignment of WASH activities with the needs of local communities. The coordinator will oversee project cycles and enhance operational monitoring to ensure effective program implementation. The position also includes contributing to knowledge sharing and improving WASH methods and techniques within the organization. The initial focus will be on North West Syria (NWS) for the first four months, where the coordinator will develop a sector-based strategy for WASH, ensuring that proposed technical approaches meet the needs of local populations. The role requires representation of SI at humanitarian Coordination platforms, particularly at the NWS WASH Cluster.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH Coordinator's responsibilities include:
- Strategic orientation: Developing and proposing a sector-based strategy for WASH in NWS.
- Relevance and quality of projects: Ensuring that WASH activities are appropriate and meet quality standards.
- Coordination, Technical Support, and operational monitoring: Overseeing the project cycle and ensuring effective implementation of WASH programs.
- Capitalization: Contributing to the improvement of SI's methods and techniques in WASH.
- Personnel management: Managing team members and ensuring their development.
- Reporting, communication, and representation: Representing SI in various forums and ensuring effective communication of project progress and challenges.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess technical competence in Emergency WASH and stabilization infrastructures, including waste management and hygiene promotion. They should have demonstrated experience in the WASH sector, particularly in water distribution and the construction and rehabilitation of WASH facilities. The ability to work with diverse stakeholders to develop consensus and present ideas effectively is essential. A strong understanding of international Humanitarian Response mechanisms and principles is required, along with the ability to translate complex strategies into operational implementation.
Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have an educational background in one of the following fields: Water Resources Management, Civil Engineering with a focus on Water and Sanitation, Environmental Engineering, Public Health with a specialization in WASH, International Development with a concentration in WASH programs, or Community Development with a focus on WASH interventions.
Experience:
Candidates should have significant experience in the WASH sector, particularly in emergency contexts. They should be familiar with the challenges and requirements of implementing WASH programs in conflict-affected areas and have a proven track record of managing projects and teams effectively.
Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered a strong asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
This position is a short-term contract with a duration of 6 months, starting as soon as possible. The salary is based on experience, starting from EUR 2860 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 785 is provided. SI covers accommodation costs and travel expenses for expatriates. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off every three months, along with additional rest days for each month worked. Expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs. Living conditions in Amman are described as very good, with access to various amenities, although field conditions may be more basic.
