Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will work under the supervision of the Head of Programme and Budget Unit within the Corporate Services Division. The role involves providing administrative support to ensure effective reporting on results achieved with core funding. The volunteer will serve as the focal point for administrative Coordination, assisting with general office tasks, communication materials, meeting planning, and project coordination. The position requires a proactive approach to managing various responsibilities, including monitoring expenditures, tracking project milestones, and supporting HR processes within the unit. The volunteer will also engage in activities that promote volunteerism and contribute to the UNV community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer include:
  • Serving as the focal point for administrative coordination and providing general office assistance.
  • Responding to correspondence inquiries promptly via email, phone calls, and in-person discussions.
  • Preparing communication materials relevant to the Programme and Budget Unit activities.
  • Assisting in scheduling and planning meetings, events, and travel arrangements.
  • Conducting research and writing reports on various issues as requested.
  • Providing updates and reports on assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Planning and coordinating project activities, including scheduling, reporting, and document control.
  • Monitoring expenditures against the approved budget and preparing necessary adjustments.
  • Tracking day-to-day progress against project milestones and overall objectives. 1
  • Assisting in collating resource requirements from Divisions/Offices for UNEP core funds. 1
  • Supporting HR processes within the CSD/PBU Unit. 1
  • Ensuring timely planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of programme and budget activities. 1
  • Assisting in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations. 1
  • Engaging in reflection activities and contributing articles for UNV publications. 1
  • Promoting local forms of volunteerism and assisting with the UNV Buddy Programme for new volunteers.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, is essential. The candidate should demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and possess the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Familiarity with environmental issues and the workings of international organizations is an advantage. Additionally, the candidate should have a strong commitment to the principles of volunteerism and the mission of UNEP.

Educational Background:
A background in environmental studies, public Administration, business administration, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should possess at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Advanced degrees may be considered an asset, particularly for those with a focus on Environmental Policy or management.

Experience:
Candidates should ideally have some experience in administrative support, Project Management, or related fields. Previous volunteer experience, particularly in international or environmental contexts, is highly valued. The role is suitable for individuals looking to gain practical experience in a UN environment and contribute to meaningful environmental initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNEP. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.

This position is a volunteer role, and as such, it may not offer a traditional salary. However, volunteers may receive stipends or allowances to cover living expenses.
