Job Overview:
The position of Translator in the German Translation Section involves translating a wide variety of texts related to the Agency's work, primarily from English to German and occasionally from French. The role emphasizes legal, financial, administrative, and procurement subjects, as well as scientific and technical matters. The translator will also be responsible for revising translations provided by others, contributing to the enhancement of translation technology capabilities, and assisting ESA staff with the appropriate use of the German language. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Translator will report to the Head of the German Translation Section and will be responsible for the following duties: translating texts into German from English and French, focusing on legal, financial, administrative, and procurement subjects; revising translations from internal and external translators; contributing to the Division's translation technology capabilities; collaborating with the Division’s Terminologist/Language Technologist on terminology efforts; and providing assistance and advice to ESA staff regarding the use of the German language. The role requires a proactive approach to staying updated with new translation technologies and methodologies.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master's degree in translation with a language combination of German (A), English (B), and French (C). Native proficiency in German is required, along with a thorough knowledge of English and French. Experience in professional translation, particularly in an international context or in fields relevant to the Agency's work, is essential. Familiarity with translation technologies, including CAT tools and terminology databases, is also required. A strong team spirit and the ability to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds are crucial for success in this role.
Educational Background:
A master's degree in translation is mandatory for this position, specifically with the language combination of German, English, and French.
