Job Overview:
The Technical Field Manager (TFM) plays a crucial role in MAG's operations, managing and leading teams of locally recruited staff to implement mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) projects. This position requires a hands-on approach, with the TFM responsible for the daily management of technical teams, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of operations. The role involves various responsibilities, including Administration, Financial Management (team cashbooks), procurement of necessary equipment, and representing MAG to Local Communities and government authorities. The TFM will also engage in operational planning and reporting, emphasizing Capacity Building and people management. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage technical teams in the field, ensuring safe and effective mine clearance and EOD operations.
  • Oversee daily operations, including administration, financial management, and procurement of equipment.
  • Represent MAG to local communities and government authorities, fostering positive relationships.
  • Develop and implement operational plans, ensuring compliance with MAG's standards and procedures.
  • Conduct training and capacity building for locally recruited staff, enhancing their skills and knowledge in mine action.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, providing technical input for proposals and reports.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and Risk Management practices in all operations.
  • Engage in Community Outreach and risk education initiatives to promote safety and awareness.

Required Qualifications:
  • Recognized and relevant EOD/demining qualification.
  • Extensive experience in managing conventional minefield clearance operations, preferably in an integrated setting.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing diverse teams effectively.
  • Strong diplomacy and liaison skills for building relationships with national partners and authorities.
  • Ability to contribute technical knowledge to proposals and reports.
  • Experience in delivering training and capacity building for local staff.

Educational Background:
A relevant degree or qualification in a field related to mine action, engineering, or a similar discipline is preferred. Additional certifications in EOD or demining are essential for this role.

Experience:
Candidates should possess significant experience in mine action, particularly in managing clearance operations. Experience in challenging environments and with diverse teams is highly valued. A background in humanitarian work or Development Projects is advantageous.

Languages:
Fluent written and spoken English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages in the operational area is considered an asset but not required.

Additional Notes:
This position is full-time and may require working in remote locations. The typical starting salary is £62,156 per annum, which includes all allowances and increases with service. MAG provides accommodation in-country, a minimum of six weeks leave per year, and three international flights home annually. Staff are covered by a comprehensive insurance package. MAG will assist with visa and work permit applications, but candidates must be able to secure these in a timely manner.
