Job Overview:
The Technical Assistant position is situated within the Training and Outreach Unit of the Capacity Building and Training Section, part of the International Data Centre Division (IDC) at the CTBTO. The primary function of this role is to provide technical assistance to authorized users of the International Monitoring System (IMS) data and International Data Centre (IDC) products. This includes managing user access, troubleshooting issues, and resolving inquiries related to data access and system performance. The Technical Assistant will also maintain communication with users regarding the distribution and quality of IMS data and assist in the testing, installation, and configuration of software packages for National Data Centres (NDCs). A significant aspect of the role involves contributing to the Design and implementation of Training Programs aimed at enhancing the technical proficiency of scientists, engineers, and technicians involved in the operation and maintenance of the IMS. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to Continuous Learning and improvement in training methodologies and materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Assistant will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to: 1. Providing technical assistance to States Signatories’ authorized users of the IMS data and IDC products, ensuring effective management of access and resolution of user inquiries. 2. Maintaining ongoing communication with authorized users regarding the distribution and quality of IMS data, as well as the output of Data Processing from the IDC Division. 3. Assisting in the testing, installation, and configuration of standard software packages for National Data Centres (NDCs) to ensure seamless integration and functionality. 4. Contributing to the design and implementation of training programs for scientists, engineers, and technicians, which includes developing training materials, methodologies, and e-learning modules. 5. Performing additional tasks as assigned by the Chief of the Capacity Building and Training Section, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in meeting the needs of the organization.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess training in computer technology and Instructional Design, which is essential for the role. Additionally, at least two years of relevant working experience with relational databases and SQL is required. A good knowledge of UNIX operating systems is considered an advantage, as is familiarity with Analysis in one of the CTBT monitoring technologies. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Educational Background:
A university degree in geophysical sciences, nuclear sciences, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the technical aspects of the role and the complexities of the monitoring technologies employed by the CTBTO.
Experience:
The position requires at least two years of relevant working experience, particularly in areas related to relational databases and SQL. Candidates with experience in the field of computer technology, instructional design, and familiarity with monitoring technologies will be given preference. The ability to demonstrate practical experience in technical assistance and user support is crucial for success in this role.
Languages:
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position. Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is desirable and will be considered an asset in the selection process. Proficiency in multiple languages can enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the effectiveness of training programs.

The position is a Fixed-Term Appointment, and the reporting date is as soon as possible.
