Job Overview:
The Teacher Basic Education position is focused on delivering quality inclusive education to all students. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying key concepts, content, skills, and pedagogy appropriate for the curriculum, ensuring that the needs of individual students are met. This role requires the use of a range of learner-centered instructional strategies and techniques, as well as the enrichment of the host country's curriculum to develop student competencies. The teacher will assess students' learning through formative, summative, and diagnostic assessments while maintaining a safe and effective learning environment in accordance with the UNRWA school code of conduct. Additionally, the teacher will participate in co-curricular activities, engage in professional development, contribute to Data Collection and Analysis, communicate effectively with parents, and collaborate on school policy development and evaluation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the delivery of quality inclusive education to all students by identifying key concepts, content, skills, and pedagogy appropriate to the curriculum.
- Use a range of appropriate learner-centered instructional strategies and techniques.
- Enrich the host country's curriculum to develop student competencies and achieve UNRWA learning goals.
- Assess students' learning through formative, summative, and diagnostic assessments.
- Maintain a safe and effective learning environment in accordance with the UNRWA school code of conduct.
- Participate in school co-curricular activities and maintain links with the wider education community.
- Engage in school-based and other professional development activities.
- Contribute to the systematic collection, recording, and analysis of data.

Required Qualifications:
- For Teacher Basic Education - Grade 08: A university degree from an accredited educational institution in an appropriate subject; no prior experience required.
- For Teacher Basic Education - Grade 09: A university degree from an accredited educational institution in an appropriate subject; completion of a minimum one-year pre or in-service training course; no prior experience required.
- For Teacher Basic Education - Grade 10: A university degree from an accredited educational institution in an appropriate subject; completion of a minimum one-year pre or in-service training course; five years of teaching experience as a Teacher - Grade 0
- For Teacher Basic Education - Grade 11: A university degree from an accredited educational institution in an appropriate subject; ten years of experience at Grade 10; completion of a minimum one-year pre or in-service training course; satisfactory performance in PERs for the past five years; successful completion of School Based Teacher Development (SBTD).
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree from an accredited educational institution in an appropriate subject. The educational requirements vary by grade level, with specific training and experience needed for higher grades. For Grade 08, no experience is required, while Grades 09 through 11 require varying levels of pre or in-service training and teaching experience.
Experience:
Experience requirements differ based on the grade level of the teaching position. For Grade 08, no experience is necessary. For Grade 09, candidates must have no prior experience but are eligible for promotion after five years of satisfactory service. For Grade 10, candidates must have five years of teaching experience as a Teacher - Grade 0
- For Grade 11, candidates must have ten years of teaching experience as a Teacher - Grade 10, along with completion of SBTD and satisfactory performance in PERs for the past five years.
Languages:
Candidates must have an excellent command of written and spoken Arabic and a good command of written and spoken English. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with students, parents, and the school community.
Additional Notes:
The position is a Daily Paid Contract at Grade 08, with a daily basic salary of 24.47 USD. Candidates invited to a written test must submit their academic qualifications, employment certificates, and other required documents either before the test date or on the day of the test. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Candidates must also provide a statement of non-employment, as governmental or joint sector employees cannot be appointed to UNRWA posts. Successful candidates must submit a notification from GAPAR confirming their reporting and completion of required forms for government approval. A statement of non-conviction and a copy of personal ID are also required. The vacancy is open to internal and external candidates, but only those residing in Syria at the time of application are eligible.
