Job Overview:
The Sr. Mission Advancement Individual Giving Advisor is a pivotal role within the American Heart Association, focusing on cultivating and managing relationships with individual donors who have a significant capacity to contribute to the organization’s mission. This position is primarily responsible for a portfolio of principal gift prospects and donors in the Western States region, particularly in the Bay Area. The advisor is expected to close over $2.5 million annually from individual contributions, engaging with donors to communicate the AHA's Fundraising priorities and mission. The role requires a strategic approach to relationship-building, proposal writing, and programmatic fundraising, ensuring that the advisor effectively represents the AHA's goals and initiatives. The position is designed for a self-motivated individual who can work collaboratively with various teams to enhance donor engagement and secure substantial gifts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Sr. Mission Advancement Individual Giving Advisor include:
  • Completing a minimum of 100 meaningful interactions with donors and prospective donors each fiscal year, managing a portfolio of approximately 50 individual donors with significant giving capacity.
  • Conducting solicitations for 24 seven-figure gifts annually for both restricted and unrestricted purposes.
  • Collaborating with field directors to identify and cultivate principal gift prospects that align with market, regional, and national priorities.
  • Creating and executing customized engagement strategies for donors and prospects to foster growth in donor relationships.
  • Working with the Mission Advancement team to gather project information, including budgets, and developing presentations and proposals to secure gifts.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all donor interactions in the Salesforce CRM database and regularly reporting on plans, activities, trends, and results to leadership.
  • Participating in training and collaborating with team members to develop programs and strategies that advance revenue development for the AHA.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Sr. Mission Advancement Individual Giving Advisor position must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Additionally, a minimum of five years of experience in fundraising is required, with at least three years focused on individual major and principal gifts or large accounts. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in planning and implementing engagement opportunities that align with organizational goals and strategies. Proven success in working with complex philanthropic donors and achieving fundraising results at the six-figure level or higher is essential. Strong collaborative skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders are also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
