For more information, visit The Office of the Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman (CAO) is the independent accountability mechanism for the private sector arms of the World Bank Group—the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). Reporting directly to the President of the World Bank Group, the CAO responds to complaints from people affected by IFC/MIGA supported projects in a manner that is fair, objective, and constructive with the aim of improving social and environmental outcomes on the ground and fostering greater public accountability of IFC and MIGA.

The CAO has three roles: - Ombudsman: Working to identify the causes of conflict and helping parties resolve concerns using practical and innovative approaches to dispute resolution (ADR) - Compliance: Overseeing compliance investigations of IFC's/MIGA's social and environmental performance, both on systemic issues and in relation to projects that raise substantial social and/or environmental concerns - Advisor: Providing independent advice to the World Bank Group President and senior management of IFC/MIGA (The Advisory Role) The CAO is an equal opportunities employer and places importance on recruiting qualified personnel on as wide a cultural and geographic basis as possible.

CAO is seeking to hire a Specialist Ombudsman for is dispute resolution function.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The CAO seeks a Specialist to manage the CAO's dispute resolution case work. Reporting directly to the Principal Ombudsman, the Specialist will be expected to: Manage CAO complaints as assigned in accordance with the CAO Operational Guidelines. Act as lead intermediary in the management of CAO led dispute resolution processes, where so directed by the Principal Specialist Ombudsman or allocated in terms of the case allocation system. Conduct independent conflict and situation assessments where required. Provide Conflict Management and resolution strategy Design advice and assistance to the CAO Dispute Resolution team and consultants. Provide facilitation/mediation assistance as appropriate. Actively support, mentor and guide staff and consultants in case management.Support population of the Case Management System Further develop the range of culturally sensitive approaches to problem-solving and dispute resolutionManage the CAO DR case budget as allocated to cases under Specialist management Selection Criteria

Graduate degree in a relevant discipline, with a qualification in dispute resolution preferred but not essential where candidate has substantial experience in dispute resolutionExperience in mediating complex development disputes ideal, but extensive experience in mediating multi-party disputes in other sectors also relevantExperience in conflict management and resolution / alternative dispute resolution strategy design and coaching, and in collaborative decision making. Able to work effectively in highly sensitive cross-cultural and politically charged environments. First-hand experience of working in, or with, the private sector, preferably in a developing country context. Experience in and ability to manage human and financial resourcesComfortable working in a pressured environment with issues of ethics and integrity at the forefront of work. Strong team and consultant management skills. Creative and lateral thinker. Problem solver and results oriented. Excellent inter-personal, communication, and writing skills.
