For more information, visit www.ifc.org The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is one of the major industry groups at IFC, responsible for managing roughly 40% of IFC's overall business in terms of volume and capital at risk. FIG engages in a wide range of sub-sectors including Microfinance, SME, Gender, Climate, Insurance, Capital Markets, Housing, Distressed Assets, and other areas, with both investment and Advisory Services delivered to IFC's clients through IFC's global network.

IFC's priorities in FIG as an industry group are: (i) grow investment and advisory solutions in all regions it operates in, while achieving strong profitability and development impact (ii) build new and nurture existing Client Relationships to make IFC the preferred partner for key clients (iii) manage portfolio of assets for strong profitability and impact; (iv) support local companies, while improving transparency and corporate governance; (v) catalyze foreign investment, including mobilizing B loans, parallel loans, and other forms of capital mobilization; (vi) introduce and develop new financial solutions, products and platforms; (vii) build long-term partnerships with strong regional players; (viii) develop client, sector and country-level solutions through upstream and downstream interventions that can be scaled and replicated; and (ix) be a thought leader and innovator of products and client solutions globally.

IFC views Fintech as a key solution to a growing need of emerging markets to rapidly catch up with the developed world in financial services. It expects Fintech players to catalyze transparency, safety, economic and financial inclusion and global economic integration. The Fintech Unit, part of the FIG Equity group focuses specifically in early stage Fintech investments, bringing to bear IFC's best knowledge, expertise and network in this converged industry. For the past 8 years IFC has built a profitable and diverse Fintech portfolio in excess of $300 million. In addition, FIG is also seeking to invest in late stage or at-scale Fintech entities in order to enhance our impact and footprint.

The Fintech team is seeking a Senior Investment Officer to lead and help grow and develop its business in Latin America. The successful candidate must have significant experience in equity and fintech investing, understands trends/dynamics/players in the Fintech space, and can identify and process appropriate investments in this space. The Senior Investment Officer will lead all activities in the region from developing investment strategies, sourcing and closing deals. She/he will demonstrate and lead with expertise in all verticals of FinTech investments. The senior investment officer will maximize the impact of IFC's intervention and contribute to the regional and/or sector/industry development by executing innovative, developmental, and profitable investments for FIG and IFC. The position will be based in Washington, DC.

Duties and Accountabilities:

The Senior Investment Officer, Fintech will be a specialized investment professional with a wide range of evolving responsibilities in line with strategic priorities of FIG. Anticipated scope of duties and responsibilities during the includes the following: Promote IFC's investments in the Fintech sector globally.Be the primary contact point between the investment teams located in Latin America and the Fintech global team and maintain relationships with regional investment teams and WBG teams to develop future business opportunities together.Develop vertical, regional and country Fintech strategies, mappings, and portfolio composition targets for our investments in Latin America.Develop and maintain strong senior industry relationships with investors, companies, government and regulators, development partners, financial sector players to understand the market and trends, identify and invest in opportunities together. Build a constant and strong pipeline of potential investments.Identify and execute viable investment transactions; maximize development impact and profitability.Develop and implement innovative and appropriate financial structures and negotiate and structure complex equity deals. Lead project teams for fintech investments including co-supervising and providing guidance and mentoring to junior staff on transaction processing, including conducting company due diligence, valuation, Analysis" id="link" class="link">Financial Analysis, and transaction structuring.Lead all fintech expertise and knowledge in the region; provide fintech expertise and equity structuring guidance to investment teams on transactions involving fintech Business Model aspects. Gather market intelligence to stay informed of emerging trends in Fintech sub-sectors in various countries; Identify business models and opportunities for new approaches that can accelerate private sector participation and development impact within a region.Analyze prior transactions and track record with specific clients to develop input for future business opportunities; Disseminate knowledge across the financial institutions industry group.Manage IFC's Fintech investments in the region. Add value to portfolio companies through board seat and observer roles. Oversee junior staff to monitor and ensure compliance with the terms of the investment agreements, prepare timely credit risk assessment reports and equity valuations and develop and implement equity sales strategies.Display vertical expertise in more than one FinTech subsectors, including being the global lead in one or more of these verticals (like tech lending or trade finance); serve as the point person for expertise transfer to teams across IFC, including FIG, MAS and regional teams. Develop new initiatives for investments in the Fintech sector in designated geography.

Selection Criteria

Master's degree in a related field and at least 8-12 years of relevant experience. Master's degree in finance, economics or other related areas. Candidates with MBA, CPA, or CFA would have an advantage. In-depth understanding of how IFC and WBG work, their corporate strategies and priorities, how they assess risk-reward trade-offs, and how they assess development impact and outcomes.Deep understanding of the drivers of the financial sector and how Fintechs act as disrupters or supporters in this space.In-depth understanding of sector drivers, business and market development cycles, and how business performance and long-term competitiveness and viability are measured within a sector and how sector dynamics may evolve within a country or region.Proven leadership in analytical, financial analysis, equity valuation, and financial modeling skills to analyze and form conclusions on company financial information or projects and industry indicators. Strong credit skills and excellent business judgment. Excellent negotiation and equity structuring skills. Ability to oversee and provide quality control feedback on financial models prepared by analysts.Proven network in the region and capacity to build productive and mutually beneficial relationships and networks internally and externally to identify business opportunities, discuss structuring alternatives, and resolve issues.Original thinking / quick learning abilities with strong initiative and drive, as well as attention to details.Ability to anticipate market trends that pose risks and opportunities for both new business opportunities and existing Portfolio Projects, including in complex markets.Has a reputation for listening carefully to clients and stakeholders and asking targeted questions to understand their needs and determine the viability of a business opportunity.Ability to quickly assess client problems, challenges, and operational weaknesses, and apply an analytical mindset as well as good business judgment and technical expertise to envision viable solutions or areas of focus without in-depth information.Ability to write comprehensive reports and publishable case studies and market thought leadership papers.Ability to build and leverage extensive internal and external networks with key players in sector, industry, technical and/or business specialization and key stakeholders across IFC/WBG to maintain expertise and stay informed, accomplish work, deliver on IFC commitments and priorities, exercise influence, and anticipate future business opportunities.Excellent oral and written presentation skills in English are required; Commitment to sustainable development.Willingness to travel.
