Job Overview:
The Senior Driver position is integral to the ILO's project aimed at promoting local Economic Development in Belize, particularly in rural and indigenous communities. This role involves providing safe and reliable driving services to the Project Implementation team, ensuring that all transportation needs are met efficiently. The Senior Driver will also be responsible for maintaining the vehicles in good condition, managing vehicle logs, and ensuring compliance with local driving regulations. The position requires a high level of discretion and integrity, as the driver will interact with officials and visitors, including high-level delegations. The role is based in Punta Gorda, Belize, with project activities extending into the Toledo District and Stan Creek.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide safe and reliable driving services for official purposes, ensuring the highest standards of safety and discretion.
- Greet officials and visitors at the airport, assisting with immigration and customs formalities as needed.
- Collect and distribute mail, documents, and other items as required.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logs and prepare maintenance plans to ensure cost-effective vehicle use.
- Conduct daily maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, including tires, brakes, oil, and battery, ensuring vehicles are clean and in good running condition.
- Ensure all necessary documents and supplies are available in the vehicle, including insurance, registration, and first aid kits.
- Inform the supervisor of any registration and insurance updates for office vehicles.
- Assist office staff with filing, photocopying, and other administrative tasks as needed.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed secondary school education and possess a valid and clean driver's license. A minimum of three years of relevant work experience with a proven safe driving record is required. Experience driving for a UN agency, diplomatic, or international organization is considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate excellent knowledge of local driving rules and regulations, as well as familiarity with local roads and conditions. Skills in minor vehicle repair and knowledge of chauffeur protocol are also essential.
Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. A valid and clean driver's license is mandatory for all applicants.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least three years of relevant driving experience, with a strong emphasis on maintaining a safe driving record. Experience working with international organizations or UN agencies is highly desirable and will be viewed favorably during the selection process.
Languages:
Fluency in English is required, along with a good working knowledge of Spanish. Knowledge of local languages such as Q'eqchi and/or Mopan is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
Additional Notes:
This position is a fixed-term contract for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
