Job Overview:
The School Fundraising Director position at the American Heart Association is a pivotal role responsible for implementing the Kid’s Heart Challenge fundraising program in schools throughout the Greater Atlanta area. This position requires the director to act as a liaison between the AHA and school coordinators, such as PE teachers and school administrators, to promote and facilitate fundraising efforts. The director will work closely with various counties, including Atlanta Public Schools, Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Haralson, and Henry, to achieve fundraising goals and enhance Community Engagement. The ideal candidate will be based in or near Atlanta and will have the opportunity to earn a base salary along with performance-based incentives. The AHA provides resources for professional development and work-life harmonization, ensuring that employees can thrive both personally and professionally.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the School Fundraising Director include, but are not limited to:
- Selling the AHA's lifesaving mission to local schools by securing their participation in fundraising programs and providing necessary tools and training.
- Presenting program information at school assemblies to educate students about the AHA and its initiatives.
- Achieving income and recruitment goals by managing existing school accounts and prospecting for new ones.
- Coordinating and implementing activities and resources to meet campaign goals in the assigned territory.
- Maintaining and tracking all fundraising data related to school participation.
- Recruiting and managing volunteers to support school-wide events and providing ongoing assistance to them.
- Traveling approximately half of the time within the assigned geographical territory while balancing home-office responsibilities.
- Reporting directly to the Vice President of Youth Market and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the success of fundraising initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the School Fundraising Director position should possess at least one year of relevant experience, although recent college graduates are encouraged to apply. Essential skills include excellent listening and communication abilities, both verbal and non-verbal, as well as strong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Familiarity with the school system is advantageous, and candidates should have effective presentation skills for engaging with school-aged audiences. Organizational skills, time management, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment are crucial. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to set and exceed fundraising goals and be physically capable of lifting and moving large objects as needed. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, is required, along with the ability to quickly learn new online tools and programs.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree is preferred for this position, although candidates with relevant experience may also be considered. The educational background should ideally align with the responsibilities of the role, focusing on areas such as communications, Marketing, or nonprofit management.
Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, or a related field. Candidates with experience in educational settings or nonprofit organizations will be viewed favorably. The ability to demonstrate successful fundraising strategies and relationship-building skills is essential for this role.
Languages:
