Job Overview:
The position of Registry within the ICC's Legal Office is pivotal in ensuring the effective functioning of the Court's legal framework. The incumbent will be responsible for providing high-level legal advice and support to the Registrar and senior officials, participating in complex legal matters that involve public Law" id="link" class="link">International Law, international Criminal Law, and administrative law. This role requires a deep understanding of the legal landscape in which the ICC operates, as well as the ability to navigate the intricacies of international legal obligations and institutional governance. The Registry serves as a backbone for the Court's operations, ensuring that Legal Services are delivered efficiently and effectively, while also maintaining the highest standards of legal excellence. The incumbent will also play a key role in managing the legal team, overseeing the development of legal strategies, and ensuring that the Registry's legal positions are consistent and aligned with the Court's objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform a variety of duties under the supervision of the Senior Legal Adviser, including but not limited to:
  • Deputizing for the Senior Legal Adviser in their absence, providing legal advice to senior officials, and participating in high-level meetings and negotiations.
  • Serving as the lead lawyer in complex legal matters, providing advice, conducting research, and drafting legal documents.
  • Advising on liability and international administrative law issues.
  • Participating as a member or chair on various committees and boards, including the Procurement Review Committee.
  • Leading inter-organizational working groups on substantive and managerial issues.
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of the Legal Office's annual work program.
  • Managing day-to-day operations of the section, including budget management and Human Resources.
  • Developing operational frameworks for legal service delivery.

  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the Senior Legal Adviser.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires an advanced university degree in law, with a specialization in international law. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Bar admission or equivalent legal qualification is desirable, along with substantial post-qualification experience in a relevant legal environment. Candidates must demonstrate extensive knowledge of applicable laws, strong legal drafting and research skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment. Management and leadership experience in international organizations is also essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in law, particularly with a focus on international law. Alternatively, a first-level university degree along with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted. Bar admission or equivalent legal qualification is highly desirable, indicating a recognized level of legal expertise and professional standing.

Experience:
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in a legal environment relevant to the ICC's work is required. Candidates with a first-level university degree must have at least nine years of experience. This experience should include management of legal teams and involvement in complex legal matters, demonstrating a strong understanding of international law and the workings of international organizations.

Languages:
Proficiency in either English or French, the working languages of the ICC, is mandatory, along with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of additional official languages of the Court, such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to operate in a multilingual environment.

Additional Notes:
The position is a fixed-term appointment with an initial duration of two years, subject to a six-month probationary period. The minimum net annual salary for this position is €110,18
