Job Overview:
The Protection from Violence Specialist at NRC Ukraine will play a crucial role in leading the technical development of the Protection from Violence (PfV) Core Competency (CC). This position involves setting strategic direction, ensuring Quality Assurance, and overseeing the implementation of the CC strategy. The specialist will be responsible for mentoring and training staff to enhance their technical capacity in protection from violence. Additionally, the role includes supporting NRC's efforts to promote the protection of civilians in conflict situations. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in humanitarian contexts and be capable of developing technical standards, guidance notes, and programming resources tailored to the needs of the Protection from Violence teams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection from Violence Specialist will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: developing or updating in-country technical standards and guidance notes for Protection from Violence; assessing training needs within the teams and implementing capacity-building plans; creating training materials and conducting training sessions on various aspects of protection; undertaking field visits to monitor implementation quality; providing technical advice and customized Capacity Building to field staff; contributing to the establishment of referral mechanisms; strengthening area-based Coordination; leading protection Analysis efforts; guiding teams on Community Engagement; promoting innovative programming; overseeing protection monitoring and advocacy activities; and collaborating with partners to ensure quality case management and protection monitoring.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical expertise area within humanitarian contexts. They should have relevant educational qualifications in Law or social sciences, documented results related to the position's responsibilities, and fluency in English, both written and verbal. Previous experience in Ukraine or neighboring countries is advantageous, as is knowledge of the Ukrainian language. Experience in implementing civilian self-protection programming, protection monitoring, analysis, and advocacy, as well as specialized protection service delivery, is also required. Familiarity with national coordination mechanisms and community engagement approaches is considered an asset.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a degree in law or social sciences. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the legal and social frameworks that govern protection from violence and Humanitarian Assistance. Candidates should have a strong grasp of the principles of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in practical settings.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in technical areas related to protection from violence within humanitarian contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in complex and volatile environments, demonstrating their ability to adapt and respond to challenging situations effectively. Experience in Ukraine or neighboring countries is particularly valuable, as it provides insight into the specific challenges and needs of the region.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in English. Knowledge of the Ukrainian language is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities. Proficiency in other languages relevant to the region may also be beneficial but is not required.
