Job Overview:
The Protection from Violence Project Manager will play a crucial role in implementing NRC's project portfolio focused on protecting vulnerable populations in Afghanistan's Central and Eastern regions. The role involves providing technical oversight, strategic direction, and Quality Assurance for the Protection from Violence projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing project strategies, ensuring effective Project Management, and providing technical guidance to project staff. This position requires a strong leader who can foster collaboration among team members and engage with local authorities and stakeholders to enhance project outcomes. The role is particularly significant given the complex humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, where the need for protection and assistance is critical due to ongoing conflict, displacement, and economic challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection from Violence Project Manager will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Line management and technical oversight of project staff, ensuring effective team performance and Capacity Building.
- Development of project strategies and interventions that align with NRC's mission and the specific needs of the Central and Eastern Afghanistan context.
- Implementation of Protection from Violence projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards and best practices.
- Providing technical guidance and direction to project staff throughout the project lifecycle.
- Managing project budgets, ensuring financial accountability and effective resource allocation.
- Building the capacity of project staff through training and mentorship.
- Liaising with local authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for project initiatives.
- Monitoring and evaluating project outcomes, making adjustments as necessary to improve effectiveness.
- Contributing to the overall strategic planning and development of NRC's programs in Afghanistan.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Protection from Violence Project Manager position should possess the following qualifications:
- Proven experience in Project Implementation within a humanitarian or recovery context, demonstrating a strong understanding of protection issues.
- Expertise in protection and site management, with a focus on vulnerable populations.
- Familiarity with the complex and volatile context of Central and Eastern Afghanistan, particularly regarding displacement and humanitarian needs.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop strategic responses to emerging challenges.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of fostering collaborative environments.
- Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, with a focus on results-oriented approaches.
Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential for this position. Candidates should ideally hold a degree in social sciences, International Relations, humanitarian studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in protection, project management, or Humanitarian Response will be considered an asset.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project management within the humanitarian sector. Experience working in complex and volatile environments, particularly in Afghanistan or similar contexts, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong track record of successful project implementation and management, as well as experience in capacity building and team leadership.
Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Pashto is also required, as it is essential for effective communication with Local Communities and stakeholders. Additional language skills relevant to the Afghan context may be considered an advantage.

This position is based in Kabul, Afghanistan, and is offered as a permanent contract. The role involves approximately 20% travel within the country.
