PSI is seeking an experienced, dynamic Project Director to lead a multi-country intervention aimed at improving uptake of intermittent preventative treatment in infants (ITPi) for an anticipated Unitaid award. PSI has a rapidly expanding portfolio of malaria programs in over 30 countries, worldwide, which accounts for more than a third of the total business of the organization. PSI's global strategy focuses on improving consumer powered healthcare through shaping market systems, shifting policy and funding and strengthening global capacity. For the Malaria Department this means moving quality malaria case management closer to consumers; bringing next generation ITNs to market; scaling response driven surveillance to accelerate malaria elimination progress and maximizing the value of drug-based prevention interventions, such as IPTi.

Responsibilities

Your contribution

The Project Director will provide overall leadership and managerial oversight for the project and ensure timely implementation and reporting of activities. The Project Director will be responsible for overall project operations. S/he should be familiar with the technical components of the project and the required support services. The Project Director will be based in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, and will liaise with National Malaria Control Programs, National Immunization Programs, and Consortium members to ensure effective Coordination and implementation of this project.

You will:
  • Provide overall leadership, and operational management of the project
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of multi-country operational research pilots
  • Ensures that grant operations and sub-grantee management activities are in full compliance with PSI and donor regulations and aligned to operations.
  • Serve as a key liaison with Unitaid, project stakeholders, and counterparts in the public sector
  • Manage and convene Advisory Groups and global level SP-IPTi+ Project Steering Committee to strategically work with key stakeholders to ensure the project meets its policy and sustainability objectives
  • Collaborate with technical team to create and implement a strategic, long-term programmatic vision
  • Manage and supervise the work of key project personnel and consortium partners
  • Oversee the work planning process, performance management, Knowledge Management and strategic communications
  • Manage Financial Management, including programmatic budgeting, spending projections, and monitoring of payments in compliance with Unitaid standards
  • Ensure high-quality periodic reporting in line with Unitaid and PSI requirements
  • Ensure that the project policies and procedures align with PSI Global Services Finance, Procurement, Grants and Contracts policies, procedures and requirements, and proactively identify and manage any potential conflicts to ensure compliance with the necessary regulations and Unitaid contract requirements.
  • Organize and direct the work of project staff and short-term advisors, set individual performance objectives cascaded from project objectives to all staff hired in the project. Provide supervision, training and performance management coaching and feedback.
  • Design and implement internal systems that ensure accurate and timely reporting on performance of the project.
Qualifications

What are we looking for?

  • A Master's degree related to health, social sciences, or development.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience working with developing countries, with at least 2 years of senior level experience supporting or leading complex, multi-country projects with staff management responsibilities.
  • Experience implementing Malaria projects strongly preferred
  • Experience of PSI systems and processes preferred
  • Demonstrated capacity to operate within the malaria international community strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of managing or supporting Unitaid grants strongly preferred
  • Effective English oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to interact professionally in French is required
  • References will be required.
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check.
