Job Overview:
The position is part of the Information Management Services (IMS) within the Department of Information and Technology (INFOTEC). The IMS is responsible for managing the ILO's extensive collections related to labor legislation, statistics, and other documents pertinent to labor and social issues. The role is crucial in providing information to ILO staff and facilitating access to knowledge about the world of work for ILO constituents, researchers, experts, and the general public. The incumbent will manage activities related to metadata and information management, including updating the ILO's taxonomy and thesaurus. This position requires a proactive approach to improving information management processes and ensuring the quality and accessibility of information resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The specific duties of the position include evaluating, creating, and implementing workflows for loading metadata for e-books, streaming resources, and other digital and printed objects on the Library service platform (Alma). The incumbent will review publications to identify documents for cataloging according to established criteria. Responsibilities also include cataloging original and complex copies, indexing various materials in multiple languages and formats using updated tools based on the MARC format, and adhering to IMS indexing policies and Anglo-American cataloging rules. The role involves supporting metadata strategies associated with digital initiatives and projects, collaborating on workflow evaluations, and proposing creative and Sustainable solutions for resource description and identification. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute to projects related to batch data load cataloging, normalization rule application, and bibliographic maintenance tasks. The position requires establishing procedures for importing/exporting, processing, and integrating records from multiple sources, drafting training materials and documentation for catalogers, analyzing and managing metadata using tools like MarcEdit and Excel, and ensuring the quality and utilization of metadata. The incumbent will also update and control vocabularies used by the ILO, supervise digitization work, and stay informed about cataloging standards and best practices.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a higher university degree or a first-level degree followed by a recognized professional qualification in library or information sciences or a related field. A minimum of three years of professional experience in library work or information network management is essential, with specific experience in cataloging and indexing using the Exlibris library management system (Alma). Familiarity with MARC21 format and Anglo-American cataloging rules (AACR) is highly valued. Candidates should also demonstrate technical competencies in MarcEdit, controlled vocabulary maintenance, and knowledge of the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC). Experience with linked data and RDF, as well as digitalization projects, is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
A higher university degree or a first-level degree followed by a recognized professional qualification in library or information sciences or a related field is required for this position. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform effectively in the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of professional experience in library work or information network management. Candidates must have substantial experience in cataloging and indexing, particularly using the Exlibris library management system (Alma). This level of experience is crucial for managing the ILO's information resources effectively and ensuring compliance with established cataloging standards.

Languages:
Candidates must have an excellent command of one of the ILO's official languages (Spanish, French, or English) and practical knowledge of a second official language. This requirement ensures effective communication within the organization and with its constituents, as well as the ability to work with diverse materials in multiple languages.

Additional Notes:
The contract type is fixed-term, with the initial contract lasting for 24 months. If the selected candidate is an external applicant, they will be subject to a probationary period during the first two years of service. Extensions of the contract beyond the probationary period are contingent upon satisfactory conduct and performance during that time. All employment contracts are governed by the ILO's Staff Regulations and other applicable internal rules.
