Organizational Setting

FAO is implementing the project “Strengthening livelihood recovery of Covid-19 most affected rural communities in Cambodia” funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The project aims to promote inclusive and transformative COVID-19 economic recovery, ensuring Food and Nutrition security of COVID-19 most affected vulnerable households and a shift towards nutrition sensitive, climate resilient Agriculture and Food Safety in selected targeted areas, firmly grounded in gender equality and women’s rights.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Cambodia, The National Poultry Extension Specialist reports directly to the Head of Operations and technical oversight of lead technical officer in the FAO regional office for Asia and The Pacific (RAP). He/she will work in Coordination with the project’s National Project Coordinator, relevant FAO colleagues, the government counterparts and other stakeholders.

Technical Focus The National Poultry Extension Specialist will work in close collaboration with the General Department of Animal Health and Production (GDAHP), Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (PDAFF), and project partner to provide trainings, technical advices and supports in response to the priority needs of targeted beneficiaries specifically on poultry production, poultry health and management.

Tasks and responsibilities

The National Poultry Extension Specialist will: • In coordination with the project team, participate in the participatory identification of beneficiary households particularly those interested in poultry production; • Take lead and facilitate consultations with beneficiary households interested in poultry production in planning, implementation and monitoring of poultry production; • Draft technical specification of poultry inputs and quantity to be procured and provided to beneficiary households; • Develop poultry IEC (Information, Education and Communication) materials as needed; • Coordinate the implementation and monitoring of field activities in relation to poultry production in close coordination with project’s other activities; • Facilitate and select model farmers, and build their capacity to become specialized chick producers for chick supply to neighbouring farmers; • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders and government authorities (General Department of Animal Health and Production- GDAHP, Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries- PDAFF) to provide trainings and technical advices to beneficiary households on poultry production, health and management; • Undertake activities to promote adoption of good practices in poultry production, agro-ecology, and climate resilient on-farm practices; • Provide necessary technical supports in response to the priority needs of targeted beneficiaries; • Facilitate and support producers in access to and use of market information and link them with private retail outlets/local markets; • Provide necessary inputs to the preparation of project progress reports, case studies, success stories; • Documentation and dissemination of best practices for wider replication; and, • Perform other relevant duties, including support to other international and national consultants as requested by FAO.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING Minimum Requirements

• Advanced University Degree in Animal health and production or equivalent • At least five years of relevant experience • Working knowledge of English and Khmer • National of Cambodia FAO Core Competencies
