Job Overview:
The Medical Coordinator plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the medical strategy for MSF's projects. This position requires close collaboration with the Head of Mission and the medical department to oversee all medical activities and resources. The Medical Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that patients receive quality medical services in accordance with MSF's principles, while also working to improve the overall health and humanitarian conditions for the communities served. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Coordinator's duties include defining and implementing the medical strategy in Coordination with the Head of Mission and medical department. They will plan and manage all medical activities, ensuring alignment with MSF's policies and ethical guidelines. The role involves translating health needs into a strategic vision and project objectives, ensuring resources are allocated accordingly. The Medical Coordinator will monitor and update the medical content of MSF's country policies, medical strategy, annual plans, and budget. They are responsible for ensuring the quality and appropriateness of all medical interventions, working to remove barriers to patient safety and effective care. Continuous assessment of medical and humanitarian needs through exploratory missions and Health Information systems is essential. The Medical Coordinator will supervise and monitor medical and humanitarian programmes through project visits, identifying and addressing challenges in implementation. Collaboration with the Human Resources Coordinator to plan, recruit, and train medical staff is also a key responsibility, as well as supporting Project Coordinators and teams in delivering medical activities. They will define and implement the Health and Safety Policy Framework, ensuring the mental and physical well-being of the team. Additionally, the Medical Coordinator will manage the pharmacy and medical equipment in collaboration with logistics, including medical orders and purchase requests. They will prepare reports on the medical evolution of projects and oversee the medical library, representing MSF in discussions with local medical authorities and partner organizations to ensure a strong medical-Humanitarian Response and support advocacy efforts.
Required Qualifications:
The position requires a degree in medicine or other paramedical studies as an essential qualification. Additionally, at least two years of relevant professional experience is required, including prior humanitarian work with MSF or other NGOs in developing regions. For some projects, previous experience as a Project Coordinator with MSF is necessary. Proficiency in the local language of the project area is essential, along with proficiency in basic Computer Applications such as Word, Excel, and internet usage.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a degree in medicine or paramedical studies. This educational background is crucial for understanding medical practices and protocols necessary for the role of Medical Coordinator.
Experience:
The Medical Coordinator should have at least two years of relevant professional experience, particularly in humanitarian work with MSF or other NGOs in developing regions. Languages:
