The Norwegian Refugee Council has been present in Ukraine since 2014, helping more than 700,000 people with food, shelter, water, sanitation, and legal assistance. Following the escalation of conflict since 24 February 2022, NRC is scaling up its efforts inside Ukraine and in neighbouring countries (Poland, Romania, and Moldova) to provide aid to tens of thousands of people forced to flee. We are focusing on an integrated approach that combines our sectoral areas of expertise – education, protection, urban displacement outside camps, Legal Aid (ICLA) and shelter – with the needs of a mobile refugee population, working to a great extent through local partners.

Responsible for spotting opportunities for communication and media that portray the humanitarian situation and needs, in line with the NRC Poland Response Plan and in cooperation with media and External Relations teams in HO and the region through the assigned focal point (CEERO – Regional Media Adviser and Head Office Global Media Advisers); Travel regularly to field locations and NRC programmes in Poland and occasionally Romania and Moldova to gather content (testimonies, photos, videos) or facilitate visits of HO media and communications staff; Support all programme teams with the development of field visibility materials, ensuring these are developed in compliance with NRC guidelines; Work closely with media and communications colleagues at the regional and global levels to provide input for communication and media materials, in close cooperation with the NRC Poland Advocacy & Media Manager; Provide updates and input to NRC media products, as requested; Work with CEERO Regional Teams to coordinate media visits on site of NRC programmes in Poland and facilitate their contact with NRC spokespeople; Always ensure compliance with and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and handbooks. Produce communication and information products, as requested; Identify new content collection opportunities which will support NRC Poland Response Plan and Advocacy Framework; Alert global media adviser on developing crises, emergencies and news stories for quick reactive media work and planning; Respond swiftly to media requests on-site and in the NRC transit centre/s in Poland and coordinate their visit (inform HO, keep track of the requests, coordinate with NRC spokespeople); Assist the Head Office in the collection, production, dissemination, and promotion of digital content in close cooperation with the Advocacy & Media Manager; Handle communications with relevant service providers (i.e., with contracted designers, copyeditors, printers, venues, etc.); Regular updates on the Media Strategy for Poland; Supporting Advocacy Manager in Poland in keeping the media talking points up to date and relevant; Introduce and train new staff and volunteers on the SOP related to working with media.

At least 3 years' experience working in communications, Journalism, PR, production Experience working in the international aid and cooperation sector, with INGOs, NGOs, UN, embassies, cultural centres etc. in communications positions is a plus Relevant university degree in Communications, Design, Art, International Relations Strong and documented writing skills, storytelling Strong and documented video production and editing, design and photography skills. Strong knowledge of working in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator) Experience in social media Thorough knowledge and experience with photography and videography Excellent level in English both written and verbal Excellent in Polish both written and verbal Strong understanding of humanitarian context Knowledge of working with donors, visibility standards, and publications’ writing is a plus.
