Through its interventions, SI implements expertise in areas such as access to Drinking Water, sanitation, hygiene promotion, Food Security, and livelihoods. The organization operates in approximately twenty countries and employs around 2000 people, including expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at headquarters, and a few volunteers. SI's teams work with professionalism and commitment while respecting local cultures.
Job Overview:
The Internship Position is situated within the Development and Communication department, which consists of 19 members. The intern will report directly to the Field Communication Officer and collaborate with the Campaign and Content Creation Officer. The primary responsibility of the intern will be to support the communication service in gathering and creating content from various countries where SI operates, with a significant focus on graphic and audiovisual creation. The intern will gain insights into the functioning of an international NGO's headquarters and the relationship between headquarters and Field Operations, as well as an understanding of the specific constraints of humanitarian missions and the visibility requirements of funding agencies. This role will also provide an opportunity to practice and enhance creative skills in graphic and audiovisual production.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's main tasks will include assisting in the creation of communication materials and producing content. This involves supporting the Field Communication Officer in collecting information from the field and headquarters, creating short video montages, photo slideshows, and infographics, formatting documents, and producing various graphic creations such as digital banners, simple infographics, photo retouching, and formatting campaign materials (posters, press inserts). The intern will also conduct interviews with expatriates, update the organization's photo and video libraries in collaboration with the web team, and assist in developing communication campaigns for the NGO. This includes creative monitoring of the NGO sector, participating in brainstorming sessions, managing external content production providers (graphic designers, printers), creating communication materials using Adobe Suite and Canva, researching free media dissemination spaces, and seeking influencer partnerships. Additionally, the intern will be involved in internal communication by collecting and disseminating information (e.g., mission newsletters, quarterly and annual activity reports), participating in service reflections and meetings, contributing to other communication service actions, and supporting events organized by the communication service as needed. The intern will also handle external information requests via the organization's email.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a higher education degree (level bac +3) preferably in journalism, communication, international relations, or humanitarian project management. A genuine interest and motivation for the non-profit and humanitarian sector are essential. Ideally, candidates should have prior professional experience in communication, strong writing skills, creativity, rigor, organization, and autonomy. Proficiency in Computer Software is required, including good knowledge of desktop publishing (Adobe CC, particularly InDesign and Photoshop), video editing (Premiere Pro), and standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with the internet, social media, and email communication (Outlook) is also necessary, along with fluency in English.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a higher education degree (level bac +3) in fields related to journalism, communication, international relations, or humanitarian project management. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication within the humanitarian sector and for effectively contributing to the organization's communication efforts.
Experience:
The position requires candidates to have ideally some prior professional experience in communication. This experience can be in the form of internships, volunteer work, or previous employment in communication roles, particularly within non-profit or humanitarian organizations. Such experience will help the intern to better understand the dynamics of communication in an NGO context and to apply their skills effectively in the role.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly languages relevant to the regions where SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL operates. This linguistic capability will enhance the intern's ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the organization's global outreach efforts.
Additional Notes:
The internship is for a duration of 6 months, starting from September 20, 2024, and is based at the headquarters of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL in Clichy, France. The intern will receive a stipend of 4.90 euros per hour, calculated based on actual hours worked. On average, a month consists of approximately 154 hours, equating to 22 days of 7 hours each. Additionally, transportation costs will be covered at 50% by SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL, and the intern will receive meal vouchers worth 8.90 euros per day worked, with SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL contributing 60% towards this.
