Job Overview:
The Internal Communication Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the International Secretary General (SG) in delivering transformational initiatives identified by various sponsors, including the International Board and Executive Committee. This position is responsible for developing comprehensive communication strategies that align with the organization's commitment to these initiatives. The officer will work closely with the SG's office to create engaging internal communications, utilizing a multi-channel approach to effectively reach diverse audiences within the organization. The role requires a proactive mindset to identify communication opportunities and needs, ensuring that internal messaging is timely, relevant, and impactful.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Internal Communication Officer will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
- Developing and implementing internal communication strategies that target a movement-wide audience, ensuring alignment with the SG's objectives.
- Proactively identifying communication opportunities and needs, initiating responsive communication actions as necessary.
- Advising on specific internal communication approaches and tools for various IO initiatives, effectively utilizing different communication channels.
- Managing MSF's internal communications channels, including the development of a prioritization of initiatives and maintaining an editorial calendar to ensure consistent messaging.
- Overseeing the production of internal communications initiatives, such as the MSF International Digest (MIDi).
- Collaborating with other internal communications experts within the IO and beyond to enhance communication efforts.
- Establishing internal communication strategies and tools to centralize Information Dissemination on major interventions and institutional crises.
- Serving as a strategic partner to the SG, providing Counsel and executive writing support for urgent communications, and developing messaging for updates and key initiatives.
- Producing monthly internal updates on behalf of the SG. 1
- Linking with the International knowledge management team to ensure effective Information Management and accessibility.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Internal Communication Officer position should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to craft clear and engaging messages for diverse audiences. They should have experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, particularly in a complex organizational environment. A solid understanding of internal communication tools and channels is essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strategic thinking, creativity, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is required for this position. Advanced degrees or certifications in communication or related disciplines may be advantageous. Candidates should have a strong foundation in communication theory and practice, with a focus on internal communication strategies.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in internal communications or a similar role within a complex organization. Experience working in a humanitarian or non-profit context is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the challenges and opportunities of communicating in a multicultural environment. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully managing communication projects and initiatives.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with proficiency in French being highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to MSF's operational contexts would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Additional Notes:
This is a permanent position with a contract duration of 80-100%. The successful candidate will be offered a contract in the MSF office of their country of residence at the time of application. The start date for this position is set for January 202
