Job Overview:
The Intern will work under the guidance of the MPA Program Manager and the direct supervision of the National Program Officer. The primary focus will be on supporting the Migrant Protection & Assistance (MPA) unit activities, particularly in project implementation, case management, and communications. The role involves assisting in the development of program implementation plans, monitoring missions, and administrative and operational guidelines related to Assisted Voluntary Return & Reintegration (AVRR). The intern will also support Program Assistants in preparing interviews, pre-return counseling, and Individual Reintegration Plans (IRPs). This position offers a unique opportunity to gain on-site experience in an international multicultural environment within the United Nations (UN) system, providing insights into the work of intergovernmental organizations in the field of migration and sustainable development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's duties will include assisting the National Program Officer in developing program implementation plans, monitoring missions, and administrative and operational guidelines related to AVRR. They will support Program Assistants in preparing interviews, pre-return counseling, and Individual Reintegration Plans (IRPs). The intern will review and update program implementation plans in Coordination with MPA teams in Hargeisa, Berbera, and Bossaso. They will provide support in collecting, storing, and managing documentation according to standard Means of Verification (MoVs) guidelines under MPA projects. The intern will also assist in coordinating with relevant authorities to support Program Assistants with administrative, logistical, and Financial Assistance for AVRR cases at various stages. Liaising with service providers and external partners to provide post-arrival and referral assistance to vulnerable returnees will also be part of the role. Additionally, the intern will assist in preparing communication and visibility plans and track progress to ensure MPA activities are featured on social media channels. Organizing training, workshops, and consultation events will also be part of their responsibilities, along with any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a university degree in political or social science, business Administration, International Relations, law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Experience in project development and reporting, as well as writing and editing informational materials and reports, is essential. Familiarity with operational activities in both humanitarian and development sectors is required. Work experience in the protection sector in Somalia is considered an advantage. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.) is necessary, and digital literacy, including knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, is a plus. Fluency in both Somali and English, both oral and written, is mandatory.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a university degree in a relevant field such as political or social science, business administration, international relations, law, or a related discipline from an accredited institution. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of migration and sustainable development, as well as for effectively contributing to the MPA unit's activities.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have experience in project development and reporting, as well as familiarity with writing and editing informational materials and reports. Experience in operational activities within the humanitarian and development sectors is essential. Additionally, having work experience in the protection sector in Somalia is advantageous, as it provides context and understanding of the local challenges and dynamics.

Languages:
Fluency in Somali and English is required for this position, both in oral and written forms. This bilingual proficiency is essential for effective communication with various stakeholders, including vulnerable returnees, service providers, and team members. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
