Internship Overview:

We are committed to providing a rewarding experience to interns by offering a paid opportunity to support and learn about the work done at the Association. This internship, will provide a birds-eye view of the work the Association is doing with the National Hypertension Control Initiative (NHCI). The location for this position is flexible and remote . The NHCI team develops and supports signature events and activities across the country. The internship will provide an opportunity to collaborate with teams across the Marketing and Communications department, and throughout the AHA. The Intern will provide support to and collaborate with the NHCI Communications team through various strategies and tactics for research, vetting and outreach to influencers, creative concepting and performing administrative and core marketing duties.

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

  • Duration: 2/26/2023-5/5/2023

  • Remote

Responsibilities

  • Provide ideas to support strategic marketing, public relations, and Marketing Communications campaigns in support of NHCI signature events and activations.

  • Assist with press release writing and distribution in support of local event promotion and disseminating mission/science/evergreen content

  • Assist in creating media expert list for the NHCI Communications team and conduct research/interview experts for written pieces or quotes for future use in media efforts

  • Other communications and marketing activities as needed

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Candidates who are juniors, seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in communications, social/Digital Media, public relations, or marketing with an interest in entertainment and influencer marketing.

  • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills

  • Knowledge of AP style writing

  • Must be knowledgeable in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with the ability to produce charts and graphs.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional interaction with colleagues.

  • Ability to work professionally in corporate and non-profit environments

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and experience with Canva and social media scheduling software preferred

  • Self-starter with good organizational skills, effective communication skills and experience with research Design

  • Minimum availably 20hrs/week

  • Required Equipment:

  • Laptop (the preference would be for interns to use their own equipment, and we only provision AHA equipment when necessary)

  • Reliable WiFi Connection

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • Basic American Heart Association knowledge

  • Understanding of health disparity and health equity, Public Health, community health centers, community-based organizations

  • Knowledge of AHA and strong awareness of and interest in current events, pop culture, social media trends (including emerging platforms) and what’s in the news related to health care, heart disease, stroke, and nonprofit organizations

  • Knowledge of PR experience

  • Self-motivated, resourceful, problem-solving, and solutions-oriented approach
