United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”) invites applications for internships starting 1 September 2023 in The Hague, Netherlands. The above job opening will be valid for 12 months and candidates will be selected on a rolling basis. Please indicate your preferred internship period in your cover letter.
The Mechanism is mandated to perform a number of essential functions previously carried out by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (“ICTR”) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (“ICTY”). In carrying out these essential functions the Mechanism maintains the legacies of these two pioneering ad hoc international criminal courts and strives to reflect best practices in the field of international Criminal Justice. The IRMCT has two branches one located in The Hague, The Netherlands and another in Arusha, Tanzania.
Responsibilities
The incumbent participates in the development of Software Applications. This includes a broad range of activities, such as the following:
¿ Participates in the Analysis, Design, programming, test, implementation, documentation and maintenance of the Client/Server and Web application;
¿ Participates in the support of existing applications and databases. This involves working together with the Help Desk and other staff in the Section to determine and solve problems;
¿ Participates in the development of reports from various existing databases;
¿ Participates in the design or update of the web pages of various Web based applications’;
¿ Participates in the internal reviews of the analysis and design of the systems.

Education
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; supplemental courses/technical certificate in information technology would be desirable.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Previous experience in technical/programming is desirable.
Experience in C#, VB, ASP.Net (C# focus preferable), PHP, JavaScript, SQL Server and TSQL skills are desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism. Fluency in oral and written English is required.

Duration:
The duration of the internship generally ranges from three months to a maximum of six months.
United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
