Job Overview:
The Internship-position" id="link" class="link">Internship Position is located at the ESA Headquarters in Paris, France, within the Director General's Services. The role is designed for university students who are eager to gain practical experience in the field of Member States Relations. Interns will support the Director General’s Operational Activities, maintain relations with ESA Member States, and assist in the preparation of meetings and presentations. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with high-level space policy discussions and contribute to the agency's mission of fostering cooperation among its member states. Interns will be involved in continuous monitoring of space activities, political developments, and policy-related topics, thereby gaining insights into the workings of international space relations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Supporting the Director General’s operational activities in Coordination with the Director General’s Office.
- Maintaining relations with ESA Member States, including pre-Council consultations and organizing meetings and visits for the Director General.
- Preparing briefing notes and dossiers on each Member State to ensure coordinated preparation across ESA.
- Assisting in the organization of internal meetings, including providing secretariat support for the Executive Board.
- Drafting correspondence, speeches, presentations, and reports for the Director General.
- Managing protocol services, including maintaining a diplomatic network and coordinating VIP participation in launch events.
- Monitoring subsidies granted to third parties and memberships.
- Contributing to the weekly updating and distribution of the Member States observatory and associated products.
- Supporting the preparation of background input for meetings and presentation materials for the Director General's engagements. 1
- Performing ad-hoc tasks in support of the team’s activities.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master’s level course. They must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A good knowledge of English or French is required, and knowledge of another Member State language is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have a background in political or social science, International Relations, space Law, policy, or related fields, which will enhance their ability to contribute effectively to the team.
Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be pursuing a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Political Science, international relations, space law, or policy. The internship is particularly suited for students who are in their final or second-to-last year of study, as they will be able to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting while gaining valuable experience in the space sector.
Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships or academic projects related to international relations, space policy, or governmental affairs will be advantageous. The internship is designed for students who are looking to gain practical experience and insights into the workings of an international organization.
Languages:
The working languages of the European Space Agency are English and French. A good command of one of these languages is mandatory for the position. Additionally, knowledge of another language spoken in one of the ESA Member States would be beneficial and is considered an asset during the selection process.
