Job Overview:
The Internship-position" id="link" class="link">Internship Position within the Forensic Science Section of the Office of the Prosecutor is designed for candidates who are in the early stages of their professional careers and are looking to gain practical experience in the field of forensic science. The intern will work closely with the Head of the Forensic Science Section and the Forensic Unit, assisting in various tasks that are crucial for the preparation and execution of forensic investigations. The role involves a combination of administrative support, research, and direct involvement in forensic activities, providing a comprehensive introduction to the workings of the OTP and the application of forensic science in international Criminal Law. Interns will have the opportunity to engage with forensic experts and contribute to the development of innovative approaches in forensic investigations, thereby enhancing their understanding of the intersection between law and science.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the Forensic Science Section, including but not limited to: assisting in the preparation of field missions by organizing equipment and liaising with external forensic experts; managing forensic equipment and ensuring its proper use; drafting and updating documents related to forensic practices; conducting administrative tasks that facilitate the operations of the Forensic Unit; performing research relevant to ongoing investigations; preparing for meetings by handling invitations, document preparation, and drafting notes; and undertaking any other tasks as assigned by the Head of the Forensic Science Section. This role is integral to the functioning of the Forensic Unit and provides valuable insights into the practical applications of forensic science in legal contexts.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a relevant degree or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognized university. A strong academic record is essential, and candidates with university studies in forensic science or forensic medicine will be given preference. The internship is aimed at individuals who are at the beginning of their professional journey, and while practical experience is not mandatory, any relevant experience will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate adaptability to multicultural environments, strong teamwork skills, and proficiency in Computer Applications, particularly Microsoft Office.
Educational Background:
A relevant degree in forensic science, forensic medicine, or a related field is required. Candidates who are nearing the completion of their studies and have a strong academic performance are encouraged to apply. The internship is particularly suited for students or recent graduates looking to gain experience in the field of international criminal law and forensic science.
Experience:
The internship is targeted at candidates with less than three years of relevant full-time professional experience. While prior practical experience is not a prerequisite, any experience that relates to the work of the Court may enhance a candidate's application. The position is designed to provide early-career professionals with exposure to the workings of the ICC and the application of forensic science in legal proceedings.
Languages:
Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, either French or English, is mandatory. A working knowledge of the other language is desirable. Additionally, knowledge of other official languages of the Court, such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.
Additional Notes:
The internship is a full-time position with a contract duration of three to six months, which must be agreed upon prior to commencement. Internships cannot be extended beyond six months. It is important to note that the ICC does not provide any remuneration for internship placements, and candidates must be able to support themselves financially throughout the duration of the internship.
