The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students the opportunity to work in the field of Public Health at a premier non-profit organization with an impeccable reputation for promoting a healthy lifestyle free from cardiovascular disease and stroke.

This opportunity is focused on digital communication with the ability to help create digital content to advance our lifesaving work! Enhance your Marketing and communications skills and Design portfolio while gaining collaboration, customer service and project Coordination experience with a national voluntary health organization dedicated to building longer, healthier lives.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week

  • Internship Duration: Summer (May 22 nd through August 11 th )

  • Remote position with flexibility to be based in locations throughout the Western States Region (Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities Include:

  • Actively participate in internship cohort meetings and complete project deliverables.

  • Assist in designing community value documents including creating design templates, adjusting the design based on feedback, researching statistics for local markets and customizing the approved design for each market.

  • Work with the Digital Strategies team to identify content creation topics.

  • Design social media templates to be used and/or customized by local markets.

  • Collect survivor stories and create and edit related videos.

  • Provide project coordination to support overall goals.

Qualifications

  • Interest in digital communication, social media, public health, Graphic Design, video. Skills in graphic design and video. Major or coursework in communications, PR, Journalism, Digital Communications or graphic design.

  • Ability to learn quickly and have focused attention to detail.

  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills.

  • Strong eye for design with an interest in building their portfolio

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs.

  • Experience in the virtual platform.

  • Proficiency with Canva Pro, Adobe CC. Proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator InDesign, Premiere Pro preferred; After Effects helpful.

  • Understanding of design for social media (best practices, engagement levers, etc.)

  • Understanding of designing for accessibility

  • 20hrs/week availability, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5:00pm.

  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection
