This position is located in the Programme Planning and Management Section of the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) within the Office of the Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) in the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) in New York. The internship is for six months and the intern will report to the Chief of Programme Planning and Management Section of UNMAS. The Intern reports to the Programme Officer/Internship Focal Point.
Established in 1997, UNMAS leads, coordinates and implements all aspects linked to the mitigation of the threats from mines and explosive remnants of war. UNMAS operates under UN legislative mandates (UN General Assembly, UN Security Council etc.), requests by the UN Secretary-General or his designated official, mostly in response to a humanitarian Emergency.

Under the supervision of a senior team member and internship focal point, the duties may include, but not limited to:
· Support in researching, drafting, and preparing documents, reports and guidelines
· Conduct background research and provide support to concept papers on mine action programme issues, relevant conventions, and researching State’s compliance with mine action relevant treaties
· Assist in researching and elaborating draft strategies and policies
· Provide support to the planning and organization of events
· Assist in communication outreach to UNMAS programmes to gather, synthesise and analyse data/information on mine action.
· Support in the monitoring of the Programme Section Work Plan, updating Action Point tracking mechanism, updating programme fact sheets including using different platforms to visualize and analyze data and information on mine action · Support in monitoring media coverage of mine action and international relations issues · Assist in the management of UNMAS Programme stakeholder Analysis · Assist in liaison with programme officers/public information focal points in UNMAS field programmes specifically related to generating multimedia public information materials and social media · Assist in the preparation of meeting and outreach material such as talking points, correspondence, and presentations · Perform other duties as necessary including office management/administrative support.

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; Be computer literate in standard Software Applications; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.Work Experience
