Job Overview:
The position of Individual Consultant is focused on providing technical and logistical expertise in Digital Communications and event Coordination for the Basic Sciences, Research, Innovation, and Engineering team at UNESCO. The consultant will work under the authority of the Director of the Basic Sciences Section and will be responsible for creating, drafting, and editing content in English, as well as translating it into French and Arabic when necessary. The consultant will also develop and Design digital and printed communication materials, manage events, and support various international initiatives related to sustainable development and scientific advancement. This role is crucial for enhancing knowledge and promoting sustainable development through effective communication strategies and Event Management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks including:
- Creating, drafting, and editing content for web pages, press releases, social media assets, and other communication materials in English and translating them into French and Arabic as needed.
- Developing and designing digital and printed brochures and other communication materials in both English and French.
- Managing on-site and online events related to UNESCO's activities, including the opening ceremony on February 4, 2025, at UNESCO HQ.
- Editing and managing the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (IDSSD) submission platform.
- Continuously updating the PBS/RIE section's hub page.
- Creating, designing, editing, and translating webpages related to the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 202
- Coordinating events for the section's programs and ensuring effective communication of news and stories related to these initiatives.
- Delivering reports on event coordination, including best practices and recommendations.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in social sciences, communications, or a related field. They should have at least 2 years of professional experience in digital communications, 1 year of experience in event planning, and 1 year of international professional experience, preferably within the UN system. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, and the ability to work autonomously and flexibly in a multicultural environment.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in social sciences, communications, or a related subject. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of digital communications and event coordination within an international context.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in digital communications, which includes creating and managing content across various platforms. Additionally, candidates should have at least 1 year of experience in event planning, demonstrating their ability to organize and coordinate events effectively. International professional experience, particularly within the UN system, is highly preferred, as it provides valuable insights into the workings of international organizations and their communication strategies.
Languages:
Candidates must have excellent knowledge of English and French, with good knowledge of the other language.
