Job Overview:
The Humanitarian Representative for the Levant is a pivotal role within the MENA Humanitarian Representation Team (HRT), which is responsible for supporting MSF operations through strategic linkages and actions with external networks, including political, humanitarian, medical, and civil society entities. This position is managed by the International Operations Coordinator and Head of Humanitarian Representation (IOHRC) and serves as a backup for the HRT MENA Representative. The representative will be based in Amman but will have the flexibility to travel throughout the region and beyond, ensuring that MSF's humanitarian efforts are effectively communicated and represented. The role requires a proactive approach to developing advocacy strategies and engaging with key stakeholders to address humanitarian issues pertinent to MSF's mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Humanitarian Representative for the Levant include:
- Representation and Networking: Develop and maintain relevant contacts for MSF operations across the region; identify humanitarian issues of concern for MSF that require advocacy efforts; propose diplomatic strategies linked to regional conflicts; prepare humanitarian diplomacy and representation materials; and enhance MSF's identity and perception in the region through effective communication.
- Support to the HRT MENA Representative: Provide backup support during priority issues or in the absence of the HRT MENA Representative; manage part of the intersectional work and facilitate interdesk collaboration.
- Analysis: Offer updates and analysis on the activities and strategies of key regional bodies related to humanitarian issues; reflect on major humanitarian and policy changes; draft written materials to convey MSF messages and analysis in collaboration with relevant colleagues.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Humanitarian Representative for the Levant position should possess strong diplomatic and advocacy skills, with a proven ability to engage with diverse stakeholders. They should have a deep understanding of humanitarian issues in the MENA region and experience in developing and implementing advocacy strategies. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential for this position, typically requiring a degree in International Relations, humanitarian studies, Political Science, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in Humanitarian Affairs or diplomacy would be advantageous.
Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in humanitarian work, particularly in advocacy and representation roles. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the humanitarian sector, with a focus on the MENA region, is preferred. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is highly desirable.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region would be considered an asset.
