Job Overview:
The Human Resources Director (HR Director) position at the American Heart Association is a pivotal role that serves as a strategic business partner and Advisor to leaders and employees within the Midwest region. This position is responsible for developing and implementing human resources strategies that align with the Association's goals. The HR Director will lead various HR programs and regional learning and development activities, including leadership development initiatives and the creation and facilitation of virtual training sessions. The role is designed to enhance employee engagement and organizational development while ensuring that HR practices are in line with the Association's mission of promoting health and hope for everyone, everywhere. The HR Director will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive initiatives that foster a positive workplace culture and support the overall objectives of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The HR Director will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: providing support to employees throughout their lifecycle within the organization, conducting check-in calls, assisting with the creation of Development Plans, and processing departures. The HR Director will advise employees and managers on various HR programs and procedures, focusing on onboarding, employee relations, employee engagement, organizational development, and talent succession. Utilizing key HR metrics and data, the HR Director will provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement in culture and leadership. The role also involves improving manager and employee performance by identifying barriers and implementing coaching strategies. The HR Director will create and facilitate virtual leadership and individual contributor trainings, lead region-wide HR projects, and maintain strong partnerships with other HR functions such as Talent Acquisition and Learning and Development. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the HR Director position should possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with a preference for candidates holding SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or SPHR/PHR certifications. A minimum of three years of proven experience in human resources is required, with at least two years of experience in providing employee and leadership coaching. Training facilitation experience is preferred, along with strong verbal and written communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to and influence individuals at all levels of the organization. A strong knowledge of employment laws and compliance is essential, as well as exceptional skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, particularly under competing demands, is crucial, and candidates should be willing to travel up to 10% locally and overnight.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for the HR Director position includes a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
