The Human Resources Director (HR Director) position at the American Heart Association is a pivotal role that serves as a business partner and Advisor to leaders and employees within the Midwest region. This position is responsible for developing and implementing human resources strategies that align with the Association's goals. The HR Director will lead various HR programs and regional learning and development activities, including leadership development and virtual training sessions. The role requires a proactive approach to employee engagement and Organizational Development, ensuring that HR practices support the overall mission of the AHA. The HR Director will work closely with employees throughout their lifecycle, providing support and guidance in areas such as onboarding, employee relations, and talent succession. This position can be home-based within the 13-state Midwest region, which includes states like Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, allowing for flexibility while maintaining a strong connection to the organization's objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The HR Director will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing support to employees throughout their lifecycle, conducting check-in calls, assisting with Development Plans, and processing departures. The HR Director will advise employees and managers on various HR programs and procedures, focusing on onboarding, employee relations, engagement, organizational development, and talent succession. Utilizing key HR metrics and data, the HR Director will provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement in culture and leadership. The role also involves improving manager and employee performance by identifying barriers and implementing coaching strategies. Additionally, the HR Director will create and facilitate virtual leadership and individual contributor trainings, lead region-wide HR projects, and maintain strong partnerships with other HR functions such as Talent Acquisition and Learning and Development. Other duties may be assigned as necessary within the functional area.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the HR Director position should possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Preferred qualifications include SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or SPHR/PHR certifications. A minimum of three years of proven experience in human resources is required, with at least two years of experience in providing employee and leadership coaching. Training facilitation experience is preferred, along with strong verbal and written communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to and influence individuals at all levels of the organization. A strong knowledge of employment laws and compliance is essential, as well as exceptional skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, particularly under competing demands, is crucial, along with a willingness to travel up to 10% locally and overnight as needed.
