Job Overview:
The Human Resources Director (HR Director) position at the American Heart Association is a pivotal role within the Midwest region, which encompasses 13 states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. This position is designed for a strategic business partner who will collaborate with leaders and employees to develop and implement human resources strategies that align with the Association's goals. The HR Director will lead various HR programs and regional learning and development activities, focusing on leadership development and facilitating virtual trainings across the region. The role is home-based, allowing for flexibility while ensuring that the HR functions are effectively managed across the Midwest region. The HR Director will also play a crucial role in enhancing employee engagement and organizational development, making this position integral to the AHA's mission of promoting health and well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The HR Director will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: providing support to employees throughout their lifecycle within the organization, conducting check-in calls, assisting with the creation of Development Plans, and processing departures. The HR Director will advise employees and managers on various HR programs and procedures, focusing on onboarding, employee relations, employee engagement, organizational development, and talent succession. Utilizing key HR metrics and data, the HR Director will provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement in culture, leadership, processes, and practices. The role also involves improving manager and employee performance by identifying barriers to performance, implementing coaching and Development Strategies, and mentoring managers and employees. Additionally, the HR Director will create and facilitate virtual leadership and individual contributor trainings, lead region-wide HR projects and programs, and participate in cross-functional projects while maintaining strong partnerships with other HR functions such as Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, HR Operations, and Total Rewards.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the HR Director position, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Preferred qualifications include SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or SPHR/PHR certifications. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of proven experience in human resources, with at least two years of experience providing employee and leadership coaching. Training facilitation experience is also preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with effective interpersonal skills that enable the candidate to relate to and influence individuals at all levels of the organization. A strong knowledge of employment laws and compliance is required, as well as exceptional skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, particularly under competing demands, is crucial, and candidates should be willing to travel up to 10% for local and overnight trips.
Educational Background:
