Job Overview:
The Human Resources Director (HR Director) position at the American Heart Association is a pivotal role within the Midwest region, which encompasses 13 states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. This role is designed for an individual who will act as a strategic business partner and Advisor to both leaders and employees, focusing on the development and implementation of human resources strategies that align with the Association's goals. The HR Director will lead various HR programs and regional learning and development activities, including leadership development and the creation and facilitation of virtual trainings across the region. This position offers the flexibility of being home-based within the Midwest region, allowing for a balance between professional responsibilities and personal life.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The HR Director will be responsible for a wide range of duties including: providing support to employees throughout their lifecycle within the organization, conducting check-in calls, assisting with the creation of Development Plans, and processing employee departures. The role involves advising employees and managers on various HR programs and procedures, which includes onboarding, employee relations, employee engagement, organizational development, and talent succession. The HR Director will utilize key HR metrics and data to provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement in organizational culture, leadership, processes, and practices. Additionally, the role requires improving manager and employee performance by identifying barriers to performance and implementing coaching and Development Strategies. The HR Director will also create and facilitate virtual leadership and individual contributor trainings, lead region-wide HR projects, and maintain strong partnerships with other HR functions such as Talent Acquisition and Learning and Development.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Preferred qualifications include SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or SPHR/PHR certifications. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of proven experience in human resources, with at least two years of experience in providing employee and leadership coaching. Training facilitation experience is also preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with effective interpersonal skills that enable the candidate to relate to and influence individuals at all levels of the organization. A strong knowledge of employment laws and compliance is necessary, as well as exceptional skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, particularly under competing demands, is crucial, and candidates should be willing to travel up to 10% for local and overnight assignments.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent experience may also be considered in lieu of a formal degree. Additional certifications such as SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or SPHR/PHR are preferred and can enhance a candidate's qualifications.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in human resources, with a strong emphasis on employee relations and leadership coaching.
