Job Overview:
The Human Resources Director (HR Director) position at the American Heart Association is a pivotal role that serves as a business partner and Advisor to leaders and employees within the Midwest region. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of human resources strategies and solutions that align with the Association's goals. The HR Director will lead various HR programs and regional learning and development activities, including leadership development and the creation and facilitation of virtual trainings across the region. The role requires a proactive approach to employee engagement and organizational development, ensuring that HR practices are effectively integrated into the overall mission of the AHA. The HR Director will also have the flexibility to work from home within the 13-state Midwest region, which includes states such as Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The HR Director will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties that include: providing support to employees throughout their lifecycle within the organization, conducting check-in calls, assisting with the creation of Development Plans, and processing departures. The director will advise employees and managers on various HR programs and procedures, focusing on onboarding, employee relations, employee engagement, organizational development, and talent succession. Utilizing key HR metrics and data, the HR Director will provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement in culture and leadership. The role also involves improving manager and employee performance by identifying barriers and implementing coaching and Development Strategies. The HR Director will create and facilitate virtual leadership and individual contributor trainings, lead region-wide HR projects, and maintain strong partnerships with other HR functions such as Talent Acquisition and Learning and Development. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed within the functional area.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the HR Director position must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Preferred qualifications include SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or SPHR/PHR certifications. A minimum of three years of proven experience in human resources is required, with at least two years of experience in providing employee and leadership coaching. Training facilitation experience is also preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with effective interpersonal skills that enable the HR Director to relate to and influence individuals at all levels of the organization. A solid understanding of employment laws and compliance is necessary, as well as exceptional skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, particularly under competing demands, is crucial, and the role may require up to 10% travel for local and overnight assignments.
