Job Overview:
As the Health and Nutrition Technical Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading CARE’s health and nutrition programs in Sudan. This position requires a strategic mindset and technical expertise to ensure that all programs are designed and implemented with the highest standards of quality and gender integration. You will be responsible for championing health and nutrition strategies, leading project Design and Fundraising efforts, and coordinating with various stakeholders to enhance CARE’s impact. This role is crucial for driving meaningful projects that create positive and sustainable changes in the communities served by CARE.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and oversee CARE’s health and nutrition strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and collaborating with teams, partners, and global experts to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Program Excellence: Establish and maintain program protocols and best practices, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, Cluster standards, Ministry of Health guidelines, and CARE’s internal standards.
  • Gender Integration: Advocate for and implement gender-sensitive and inclusive practices within all health and nutrition programs, ensuring that gender-based violence awareness is embedded in Program Design and execution.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide mentorship and technical guidance to health and nutrition teams, ensuring clarity in objectives and excellence in program execution.
  • Project Design & Fundraising: Lead the conceptualization of new projects, conduct thorough situation analyses, and spearhead proposal development to secure funding for new initiatives.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Support the preparation of high-quality reports, facilitate Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) processes, and contribute to advocacy materials that highlight program impact.
  • External Representation: Represent CARE at national and international forums, fostering strong relationships with NGOs, UN agencies, donors, and government bodies to enhance collaboration and support for health and nutrition initiatives.
  • Emergency Response: Drive the rapid start-up of health and nutrition projects during crises, ensuring timely and effective responses to meet the urgent needs of affected populations.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: A Master’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in humanitarian health and nutrition Program Management, particularly in complex environments with a focus on Emergency Response.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven ability in program design, research methodologies, training facilitation, and compliance monitoring, demonstrating a strong understanding of health and nutrition best practices.
  • Fundraising Skills: A track record of successful proposal writing and securing funds from institutional donors, showcasing the ability to articulate program needs and impact effectively.
  • Analytical Acumen: Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, with the ability to analyze data and prepare comprehensive reports that inform program decisions.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Familiarity with Sudan’s humanitarian context and the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and stakeholders, respecting cultural differences and promoting inclusivity.
  • Technological Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office and relevant data Analysis tools, enabling effective program management and reporting.

Educational Background:
Candidates are expected to hold a Master’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of health and nutrition programs and for leading initiatives that require advanced knowledge and skills in these areas.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in humanitarian health and nutrition program management. This experience should be within complex environments, particularly focusing on emergency response scenarios. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the challenges and best practices in health and nutrition programming in crisis situations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is essential for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international stakeholders. Proficiency in Arabic is also highly desirable, as it facilitates effective communication with local communities and partners in Sudan.

This position is full-time and involves significant responsibilities in both strategic leadership and operational management. The role may require travel to various locations within Sudan, especially during emergency response situations.
