Job Description

  UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the Empowerment of Women; the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development; Human Rights; as well as Humanitarian Action and peace and security. Placing women's rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on Gender Equality and Gender Mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States' priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

UN Women Programme Office in the Republic of North Macedonia in line with its priorities set in the UN Women strategic plan and in the UN Partnership for Sustainable Development, is coordinating the UNCT on gender equality, supports the country on  the normative commitments and  is working in two thematic areas – governance and national planning and ending violence against women. In fulfilling its mandate, UN Women is cooperating with UN, the government and the CSOs to advocate for women’s empowerment and advancement for gender equality.

Under the global UN Women multigenerational campaign: “Generation Equality: Realizing women’s rights for an equal future”, UN Women in North Macedonia is supporting various initiatives and advocacy efforts bringing together the next generations of women’s rights activists – both women and men, girls and boys – with the gender equality advocates and visionaries who were instrumental in creating the Beijing Platform for Action more than two decades ago Strategic advocacy and communications efforts of UN Women in North Macedonia include support to local activities within the informal HeForShe network, local initiative “Not Only on March 8th”, observance of key dates and events related to gender equality, such as the International Women’s Day, 8th March, International Day of Rural Women, International Girls in ICT Day, 16 Days of Activism, etc.

To raise awareness on topics pertaining gender equality, convey key messages and reach target audiences, UN Women office in North Macedonia will develop communications and advocacy materials that will require creative and catchy graphic Design; such as brochures, factsheets, fliers, posters, newsletters, infographics, animation videos, logos etc.; with aim to support communications, advocacy and resource mobilization and enhance visibility and understanding of local UN Women initiatives and campaigns.

Duties and Responsibilities

SCOPE OF WORK AND SPECIFIC TASKS

The consultant will work closely with UN Women North Macedonia Head of Office/Programme Specialist and Communications and Knowledge Management Officer to perform the tasks, that include but are not limited to the following:
  • Conceptualize and develop animation videos, graphics and infographics to communicate advocacy efforts. The materials should be created for specific use on web, social media and print;
  • Conceptualize, design and layout of high-quality innovative, creative and attention-grabbing materials, for print and web-based communications, such as infographics, publications, illustrations, posters, print and web-based campaign and advocacy materials, promotional materials and any other communications materials that require creative Graphic Design;
  • Liaise with the printing/ production facilities and provide them with all relevant production-related information;
  • Conduct quality control to ensure accurate and high-quality work;
  • Modify, revise and edit materials as required, in consultation with relevant UN Women staff;
  • Prepare final media files for online distribution;
  • Carry out ad-hoc graphic design related work as instructed by the supervisor.
The consultant should:
  • Follow UN Women Branding Guidelines and Identity Standards
  • Explore and propose ways to convey information through animation.
PRINCIPLES

  • Messages should be positive, gender-responsive and empowering and reflect the programmes’ principles;
  • Materials should be designed in such a way that they can be updated and adjusted for future use (all colours, pantones, fonts, inserted bitmaps or any other used resource should be included in the design package; fonts should not be converted to outlines in order to follow further edits and adaptations in the future);
  • The designs of the materials should be consistent with UN Women Communications guidelines;
  • UN Women will hold non-exclusive world rights in perpetuity of all designed submissions and products.
DELIVERABLES AND TIMELINE

High quality design for web and print materials, including publications, graphics and infographics etc. complying with agreed formats and communication objectives. All of which must be complying with agreed formats and communication objectives.

The deadline of submission for each assignment will be indicated with the instructions for each assignment.

  DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT AND DUTY STATION

The time required for the consultancy is up to 45 working days within the period indicated, and the consultant will be engaged on a job-by-job basis.

There is no commitment or guarantee given by UN Women regarding the number of days work to be given to the consultant, only that it will not exceed 45 days.

CONTRACT SUPERVISION 

The consultant will work in close cooperation with UN Women North Macedonia Head of Office/Programme Specialist and Communications and Knowledge Management Officer, who will be responsible for the quality assurance of the deliverables.

SCHEDULE OF PAYMENTS

Payment upon satisfactory submission of specific deliverables. All deliverables must meet the specified requirements and be signed off as acceptable by the Hiring Manager.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, animation, communications and/or visual arts. A Technical degree in combination relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the bachelor’s degree.
Experience

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in animation, graphic design and layout work for digital and print content;
  • Experience on development of communications materials for the UN, preferably on gender;
  • Working experience with UN and/or international organizations is an asset.
  • Experience in visual and digital storytelling, animation and video;
  • Design experience for application on social media, social platforms;
  • Experience in best practices for infographic design;
  • Experience in a full range of graphic design software, including Adobe Suite/CC such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and/or After Effects;
  • Solid understanding in preparation of graphics for application on printing and production matters and knowledge of different formats for printing;
  • Excellent written and oral skills in Macedonian and English required.

  • Financial Proposal (Specifying a total lump sum amount for the tasks specified in this Terms of Reference). The financial proposal shall include a breakdown of this lump sum on a daily basis.
  • Previous Work - The candidate should provide examples/portfolio of graphic design and animation work completed in the last two years.
Evaluation of applicants:

Consultants will be evaluated using a cumulative Analysis method taking into consideration the combination of qualifications and financial proposal. Contract will be awarded to the Individual Consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as:
  1. Responsive/compliant/acceptable, and
  2. Having received the highest score out of below defined technical and financial criteria.
Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 49 points in the technical evaluation would be considered for financial evaluation.
