Job Overview:
The Gender Specialist will lead efforts in various projects aimed at enhancing women's economic justice through capacity building and advocacy. This role requires a hands-on approach to training and mentoring project staff and government partners in gender empowerment strategies. The specialist will work closely with project managers to ensure that the programs align with the goals of gender inclusion and empowerment. The position demands exceptional planning and facilitation skills, as well as the ability to influence change through effective communication. The Gender Specialist will report to the Sr. Gender and Policy Advisor and will be instrumental in ensuring the quality and impact of the projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct continuous assessments of gender and life skills gaps in projects, leading to strategy revisions and implementation of gender-responsive planning.
  • Build capacity among staff and partners on gender issues, facilitating training and developing materials for gender and community service initiatives.
  • Engage with government structures and factories to promote gender-related activities and monitor their implementation.
  • Document and share lessons learned from gender and community service initiatives, contributing to advocacy efforts.
  • Stay updated on gender and community service developments, participating in networks and task forces to enhance project impact.
  • Represent the organization in various platforms regarding gender initiatives and community service.

Required Qualifications:
  • A strong commitment to gender equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
  • Proven experience in gender Analysis, training, and mainstreaming initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in report writing and computer literacy, including MS Office and graphic Design tools.
  • Ability to coach and facilitate change within teams and organizations.

Educational Background:
Required: A Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Rural Development, or related fields. Desired: Professional training in gender-related disciplines.

Experience:
Required: 4-5 years of relevant work experience, particularly in private sector engagement and dignified work within factory settings, especially in the textile and garment industries. Experience in women's rights and livelihoods programming is essential. Desired: Experience working with NGOs.

Languages:
Mandatory: Proficiency in oral and written English. Good to have: Knowledge of local languages may be beneficial for Community Engagement.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with 50% travel required to target communities. The salary for this position is $104
