About the role:

CARE Canada is looking for a Gender Equality Advisor


CARE Canada’s Global Programs Team is responsible for developing and managing the organization’s programs in both development and humanitarian assistance focusing on the injustice of poverty and gender inequality. The Strategic Plan (2021-2025) reaffirms our gender-equality focus and our dual-mandate status. Our ultimate impact goal is to support women’s leadership for a gender-just future grounded in strong programs supporting safety/protection, health and dignified livelihoods across both humanitarian and development settings. The Global Programs unit is responsible for the overall management of CARE Canada’s global programming circa $50m annual development and humanitarian programming portfolio.

Under the leadership of a Senior Gender Equality Advisor, you will be a key contributor to CARE Canada’s overall success and effectiveness. The Gender Equality Advisor will advance CARE Canada’s commitment to program quality, specifically by supporting gender equality and commitments to Gender Based Violence across the organization. They will seek to ensure strong alignment of new programs and existing programs with CARE Canada’s Strategic Plan, with a particular focus on ensuring gender transformative and innovative Design" id="link" class="link">Program Design and implementation.

Because of the nature of the work, demands are fast-paced and unpredictable. To thrive in this job, you will need to be flexible and be willing to both lead and work as part of a close-knit team when needed.

Gender equality is at the heart of CARE’s mandate, and therefore at the centre of everything we do. You must have a strong commitment to gender equality and be keen to learn more about how these fits into the work that we do.


  • You have five or more years of professional experience related to gender equality, women’s rights, and/or gender-based violence
  • You are experienced in designing and delivering projects or services to mitigate, prevent or respond to Gender Based Violence in Canada or abroad or related types of services.
  • Self-identify as Feminist
  • You have an expertise in qualitative data research, Analysis and interpretation
  • You are experienced using coaching and participatory approaches to move teams towards results
  • You have excellent cross-cultural communication skills
  • Fluency in French and English including written and spoken


    • You have bachelor's degree in a field related to the position, or an equivalent combination of professional experience
    • Knowledge of results-based Gender Equality monitoring
    • Participation on research projects on gender equality and women’s rights
    • You have previous experience working within an international or local NGO context
    • You have a specific knowledge of feminist theory and/or experience with feminist programming
    • You are experienced working on gender equality in emergency or nexus contexts
    • Experience with developing or implementing male engagement/positive masculinities programming
    • You have Spanish language skills, fluency is an asset


      • Starting Salary Range between $78,000 – $83,000 depending on skills and experience
