Job Overview:
The GBV Protection and PSS Officer is responsible for coordinating and supervising the implementation of the Women Led in Emergency (WLiE) project at the ground level. This role involves strengthening healing services within Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) and ensuring that gender, safeguarding, and protection mainstreaming are effectively integrated into project activities. The officer will work closely with project staff and partners to ensure that all activities align with the organization's principles and donor requirements. The position requires a proactive approach to planning, implementing, and monitoring project activities, as well as facilitating workshops and training sessions to promote Community Engagement and learning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Planning and Implementation of Program Activities (20%): Ensure project activities are planned and implemented according to organizational principles and donor requirements. Collaborate with project staff and partners to develop annual, quarterly, and weekly plans.
- Women Led in Emergency (WLiE) and EMAP Model Implementation (60%): Implement the WLiE methodology and EMAP approach in designated woredas. Facilitate workshops and training sessions, conduct healing activities, and provide professional PSS services.
- Monitoring and Supervision (5%): Maintain up-to-date data on GBV/PSS activities, facilitate joint monitoring programs, and conduct supportive supervision with local partners.
- Facilitate Learning and Networking (5%): Establish relationships with local officials and stakeholders, keep abreast of sector developments, and represent the organization in meetings.
- Reporting, Staff Supervision, Coaching, and Team Building (5%): Develop reporting formats, collect and summarize performance reports, and conduct performance reviews for supervised staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned (5%).
Required Qualifications:
Required qualifications include a degree in psychology, gender studies, sociology, Social Work, or related fields from a recognized university. Candidates must have a strong understanding of gender issues, youth and Social Inclusion, and a commitment to gender equity and safeguarding principles. Technical skills required include proficiency in written and spoken English, computer skills, and effective communication and report writing abilities. Candidates should also demonstrate teamwork, sensitivity to rural adolescent health, and a conceptual understanding of participatory approaches and Sustainable Development.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a degree in psychology, gender studies, sociology, social work, or related areas from a recognized university. A postgraduate degree is preferred, especially for those with less experience. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in understanding gender issues and the social dynamics affecting vulnerable populations.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience for candidates with a first degree, or 2 years of relevant experience for those with a postgraduate degree. Experience in implementing or leading sexual and Reproductive Health and/or gender-focused projects in emergency settings is essential. Previous work with crisis-affected communities and experience in humanitarian settings are highly desirable.
Languages:
Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory. Additionally, the ability to communicate in the local language (Oromifa) is highly beneficial and may enhance the effectiveness of the officer's work within the community.
