Job Description

*Duties and Responsibilities: - Consolidation of various financial and budgetary data and presenting information in a meaningful manner.

- Support the Finance Officer in soliciting information on Finance related subjects from Country Offices in the region and ensuring timely feedback from Country Offices.

- Assist the Finance Officer in reviewing financial key performance indicators and practices in the region and suggest ideas for optimization of processes. When requested, the incumbent is expected to help in validating new processes proposals/ideas.

- Assist the Finance Officer in rolling out new initiatives and projects and take part in presenting related topics, as requested.

- Support the Regional Controller¿s Team in drafting correspondence and documents related to Budgetary and Financial Management.

- Assist the Regional Controller¿s Team in its work in the areas of: 1) identifying risks related to Administrative and Financial management; 2) prevention of fraud and corruption; and 3) innovative initiatives for increase of efficiencies through reducing the risks.

- Support the RCT in organizing regional workshops, trainings and meetings, and act as a focal point for these activities.

- Support the RCT and MENA RB Admin/Finance team in their day-to-day work.

*Minimum qualifications required - Be a recent graduate (recent graduates are to be considered those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying for an Internship with UNHCR) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.

- Advance knowledge of the International Finance and Accounting principles.

- Working knowledge of MS Excel (Pivot tables) - Excellent drafting skills in both Arabic and English * Desirable Qualifications: - Master¿s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related fields.

See below for this postion's Operational Context The Regional Controller¿s Team at the Regional Bureau for Middle East and North Africa provides support and oversight roles (2nd Line of Defence) on financial and budgetary activities of UNHCR Country Offices in MENA Region. With the objectives of safeguarding and optimizing the utilization of UNHCR¿s monetary and physical resources. While doing so it strives to the establishment of efficient and reliable mechanisms/processes to ensure compliance with UN Financial Regulations and UNHCR¿s rules, policies, and procedures.

The purpose of this internship assignment is to have a mutual benefit whereby the incumbent will gain hands-on experience by analysing financial data and trends at a regional scale as well as to have the opportunity to put in practice learnt skills related to financial risks and opportunities. In return, UNHCR will benefit from the Intern knowledge and fresh ideas gained through years of academic studies, as well as from the enthusiasm and energy of fresh graduates.

The incumbent of this internship works under the direct supervision of the Finance Officer in the Regional Bureau for Middle East and North Africa.

Initially for two  Months, extendable for up to six months.
