Job Overview:
The Financial Analyst position at the American Heart Association is a critical role that involves performing a variety of financial and analytical duties for assigned regions and National Business units. The primary focus of this position is on budgeting, projections, and monthly reporting. The Financial Analyst will work in a hybrid setting, spending 2 to 3 days a week in the office. This role requires a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, as the analyst will be responsible for creating schedules, pivot tables, and templates, as well as managing uploads and downloads with the general ledger system. The analyst will also prepare reports for Senior Leadership and act as a liaison between the Financial Planning and Analysis team and budget managers. This position is essential for ensuring accurate Financial Reporting and supporting the overall financial health of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Financial Analyst will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including:
  • Developing, preparing, and maintaining regular reports using the financial Accounting System (Essbase) for assigned customers.
  • Creating ad hoc reports and conducting research to support variance analysis.
  • Acting as a consultant and liaison to assigned budget managers to enhance financial reporting practices and procedures.
  • Responding to and resolving concerns or issues effectively to provide advanced customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Preparing portions of the National Center budgets and projections with the support of the Supervisor, which includes preparation of annual budget/projection instructions and templates, facilitating training, and uploading budgets/projections and revisions to the financial reporting system.
  • Analyzing and reporting on budget/projection changes and requests, preparing supporting schedules and documents for the process.
  • Completing assigned projects or analyses as needed, including preparing financial documents/reports for internal and external audits as requested.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the Financial Analyst position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, with a preference for candidates holding an accounting degree.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting.
  • Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including skills in pivot tables, if/then statements, and vlookups.
  • A solid understanding of the principles and practices of budgeting, projecting, month-end close, and variance analysis.
  • The ability to analyze financial data and interpret it into narrative form.
  • General business knowledge and experience in applying accounting principles to analyze data and document results.
  • Strong ability to work against deadlines to deliver required outputs.
  • Proficient skills in using automated accounting packages.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of American Heart Association staff.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Financial Analyst position must have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. An accounting degree is preferred, as it provides the foundational knowledge necessary for the Financial Analysis and reporting duties required in this role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting. This experience should demonstrate a strong understanding of financial principles and practices, as well as the ability to work with complex financial data and reporting systems.
