Job Description


  1. Role and responsibilities

    The purpose of Finance Assistant position is to assist in the day-to-day implementation of the finance functions responsibilities.

    Generic responsibilities (max 10)

  2. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  3. Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
  4. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  5. Ensure proper filing of documents
  6. Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function

    Specific responsibilities

    Provide day to day Financial Accounting of all the financial transactions in compliance with NRC financial policies and procedures:

  7. Record all cash movements and undertake periodic cash counts
  8. Assist in bank accounts and cashboxes reconciliations
  9. Follow up on advances and refunds
  10. Prepare and arrange for bank withdrawals and transfers and present for verification
  11. Verify all invoices, vouchers and receipts and supporting documents and enter in the system as appropriate
  12. Make all approved payments and upload all the support documents in Agresso   
  13. Maintain accurate financial and accounting files and transactions
  14. Maintain proper filling system for all financial and accounting documents
  15. Prepare periodic financial reports and submit for review
  16. Review and Send monthly vouchers to the Nairobi office
  17. Assist in preparation of financial reports, budgets and budget monitoring for projects
  18. Review the monthly payroll for incentives staff.
  19. Participate Monthly BVAs meetings with the program and support team.
  20. Support project staff in financial matters.

    •              Experience from working as a Finance Officer/Assistant in a humanitarian/recovery context

    •              Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts

    •              Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities

    •              Excellent knowledge of English

    Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience:

  21. Degree in Finance/Accounting
  22. Certified Public Accountant level II
  23. Minimum of 3 years relevant experience
  24. Office Administration skills
  25. Interpersonal skills
  26. Computer skills with exposure to accounting systems
  27. Good communication skills
  28. Accurate and keen to detail

    We offer:

    Duty station: Dadaab
    Contract period is up to 31st March 2023 renewable depending on funding availability and strategic reorganization.
    Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions, The candidate will observe NRC’s Code of Conduct and working hours for the NRC Office in Dadaab.
